Guys, just finished this for Stikpusher’s Korean War Group Build. Needs a little more tinkering but I think I’m to the point of sticking a fork in 'er.
Jeep: New Tamiya kit, built straight-outta-da-box.
Driver: Figure from the kit, again built straight-outta-da-box.
Corporal in back: Mostly Dragon figure with replacement arms.
South Korean translator: Frankenstein Monster figure- tush and legs from an old Tamiya Kubelwagen driver, torso from Dragon, head from Hornet’s east Asian replacement heads, and arms again from the ‘arms’ box.
I was inspired by a photo in Squadron’s ‘Armor in Korea’ book that showed a bunch of US MPs and a South Korean translator on a Greyhound armoured car. Figured I’d scale the photo down to a Jeep. Guy in a local Korean restaurant helped me with the writing on the Korean’s helmet - which reads ‘soldier’. Love that- isn’t putting ‘soldier’ on a helmet like writing ‘contractor’ on a hardhat or ‘cook’ on a chef’s hat???
Gino: Thanks for the link to the ‘Jeep in a box’ - I hadn’t seen it before, not sure how I missed it, I think I was on the forum at the time. Great idea and love how the crate turned out.
I’ll be picking up another Jeep or three for more projects in the future too!
Great job! I love the Korean “Soldier” on his helmet, someone might have mistaken him for a sailor if it wasn’t for that little touch.[:D]
I too, had missed Gino’s “Jeep in a box”. Thanks for resharing it, Gino. I love that kind of stuff. Whenever we were issued new equipment, I always would try to find a way to keep one pristine and fresh to save for a rainy day. I would love to find one of these forgotten in a warehouse somewhere.
Nice job! I would like to see more Korean War subjects, like a good T-34/85. it would look great at the side of the road smoking with your Jeep driving by lol.

I have the AFV Club T34/85 which seems to be pretty close to the KW version. It has a full interior so I want to do her up as an abandoned/knocked out vehicle when I get the guts up enough to tackle it.
Actually other than the air pressure labels over the tires (which are covered in mud!) and the Korean writing on the passenger’s helmet there’s nothing to distinguish it a second world war vehicle.
And the mud is just a little acrylic stucco paint with Tamiya Earth sprayed over it and a little dry-brushing.
Thanks Gamera! I’ve been looking at the AFV one line, no hobby shops within 100 miles[:(] I spent a lot of time in Korea if you ever get there check out the War Museun by the National Cemetary in Seould and the war monument in “The Punch Bowl” some good vehicles on display…T-34’s are rife [:D]
Thanks Jim! I’ve got to visit Korean one day and one of the first places I want to see is the War Museum. FSM member The Draken who worked for several years teaching English in the ROK has posted some great shots of the museum over on Stikpusher’s GB. And if I may admit Korean women are some of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen… [;)]
I spent my time on the DMZ as an Infantryman before the ROKA replaced the US Army there and latter in the JSA (Pan Mun Jom) with the UNCMAC Security Bn.
I’ll let Soo-jin know that you think Korean women are amoung the most beautiful, lol, that’s what she keeps telling me Don’t let her know but I think so too.
