As you may have read here and there on my posts the IPMS club I belong to is hosting a show on 25 Feb (Check the contest lists in this months FSM) Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum Heritagecon. www.warplane.com under events
We are setting up a donation box at the entrance to collect unbuilt kits, paint, brushes, glue, tools, reference etc. etc. etc. to ship over to the troops in Afghanistan.
So if you are planning on attending the show, search that stash for a kit you just might not get to. Or a reference you no longer use. Or just pick up a kit and add it to the pile.
You can make a soldiers day away from home a little more tolerable. Please mention this to as many people as possible and get the word out.
I’ve had the box ready for a number of months now trying to find out how to send it. I’ve been told that they’re not interested, which I believe to be complete BS. I have contacted the local recruiting office and some acquaintances that are involved in the military and have been shut down every time. One guy replied that he exhausted many avenues and didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. I’ve contacted my local MP and am still waiting for a response from him! Apparently there is an effort to STOP people from sending things to our troops overseas, and that anything other than cards or letters would be returned. I never thought to contact you and I’m kicking myself for not doing so earlier!
I know there are a bunch of Canucks on this website, so I call on them to send what they can!
Update; The museum that hosts our club has really taken this and run with it. The airport that is adjacent to the museum is loaning a shipping container from one of the cargo airlines to collect the kits and donated goodies. Once the container is full the kits are to be transported to Kandahar.
I’ve posted a request for Kits for Kandahar on a couple of other forums I haunt with a link to this thread, and so far I’ve received a couple of positive hits. I am keeping your addy OFF the forums and I’m only sending it to people who request it. I hope you don’t mind!
I’ve had a couple of people ask to post the addy publicly, which I am loathe to do seeing how it’s not mine. I would take the chance on one forum as it’s a private forum, members only. But I still would like your permission before I do so.
Here’s the address where anyone interested can ship to.
KITS for KANDAHAR c/o Canadian Warplane Heritage 9280 Airport Road Mount Hope, Ontario Canada L0R 1W0
Thanks in advance to all who participate. Remember to sign the box of the kit with your name, city and province or state. That way the troops know where the support is coming from.
Thanks for all the assists! I just got off the phone with the marketing manager at the museum. She informed me that any donations can be mailed to the museum direct and they will make sure that they get added to the others.
With the upcoming T.V. spot and hopefully some coverage in the local paper this will turn out to be a great thing.
Cheers;
Gregory
P.S. I received your p.m. about the individual wanting to post to his website. Answer DEFINITELY post it on there!!!
BTW I dogged it all weekend and only today posted my box. Since you provided a direct address I’ve posted it to the museum to save you and your wife the extra work.
It’s not Saul’s website, and I’ve been having a hard time getting to the website myself. It keeps timing out. Suffice to say that I will keep trying! PM coming with link…
I’m shocked that more Canadians haven’t signed on yet. I’ve had a couple of Americans contact me from another site. One would think we could muster up a bit more here! [#dots]
I’m ex-Comm Reserve and one of my co-workers is ex-Infantry (if you can truly be ex- anything!) We’ve been pushing Red Fridays here at work and it’s slowly catching on. I sent out an email to the 40 or so people in my department and listed the address that you provided. My co-worker took the ball one step further and passed the address on to another set of forums for military and ex-military motorcycle enthusiasts. We hope this gets you a few more “out of province” donations.
Thanks in advance! That is fantastic news. Red Fridays are going strong here too. No one is really Ex-anything when you have set aside your own and put on the uniform of your country. We all are brothers and sisters, comrades in arms. I will keep you posted as things progress.
Just a short update. K for K 2 is off to a great start the luggage container donated by the local airport was half full by the end of the show yesterday! Thanks to all the donors! Lots of great kits, books, games in there. Once we get a full total of the number I will update this post.
Thanks again to everyone! Great job for a great cause!
