Well I know this has been talked about before but i cant find anything with the new search engine, so here it goes. What would be a good armor kit for my little cousin? I think he’s 9 years old. Something cheap 1/35 or preferably 1/72.
He will probably be wanting to do something American. So can you guys help?

I believe the Tamiya Walker Bulldog has been mentioned quite a bit.

I just picked up a bunch of kits for my boys and they’ve having a blast with 'em. Dragon makes 1/144 Armor, two kits for about $4. These cool little tanks are pretty detailed and a neat project. They might be too easy for a nine year old, my oldest is 5, but a lot of fun.
The old Tamiya Pz II or the Panther (again, the old one) would be pretty good for that age, with a little help/supervision.

italeri makes a decent sherman m4 as well as an abrams m1, both in 1/72
they cost about $10 bux each and r fun kits 2 build… about 100 pcs total.
the sherman comes w/ both link & length & rubberband trax
the m1 only has the link & lengths, so u’ll probably have 2 give him a
little bit of help, but it will b more fun 4 him if u let him do as much as
possible by himself… even if it looks like he’s ‘messing it up’, try not 2
take over the building… just get him some non-toxic glue & paint &
let him make a model 4 himself !
i’ve built a few models w/ my little brother, & this was the hardest part 4 me,
seeing something i could do better & still keeping my hands off his project !
no-one becomes a better modeler by letting someone else do the hard parts…[:D]

Tamiya’s Bulldog and Panther “A” are both good starters in 1/35. Both are old kits and go for abt $14.00 locally but with a Hobby Lobby 1/2 price sale going…
You could also try to find some kits by Mini Hobby (not Minicraft) which are reboxed from other mfgs. and are reasonably priced.
I’d try the 1/72 Revell-Germany kits. Great quality, lots of details yet simple to build. The easiest so far: Markava III… Just shake the box, everything falls together nicely. Superb little kit!
I suggested the Tamiya t-34 before, but if it’s something american, try one of the little softskins like a jeep or a humvee. The jeeps from academy are easy builds and the hummers by italeri no less. Tamiya offering is a much more complex model.
any 1/72 scale German tank owuld be great

Frosty, Thanks for the advice, I could see myself gluing on all of the small stuff for him and then just get carried away… I too like italeies 1/72 M4 Sherman, in fact that was my first kit i ever built and I just ordered another one from great models. I would love to get him that kit but it hasnt been at My LHS for a whole year (since i bought it.)

I pretty much have asked this question, so whe we go to the LHS he doesnt pick out a hard kit, like a dragon with indies, and I can recommend him a different one.

Tamiya’s old Stuart if you can find it. Maybe a Jeep as mentioned. Italeri has a nice Chaffee and Sherman.
