King Tiger in Paris

This WE, I watched the 60th anniversary’ report of the release of Paris.
I was very surprised to see a king tiger wich seems to come back from West, the 23 or the 24th of august 1944.
In my mind, there is no King Tiger which came out from the Falaise Hell, trough Paris or the Seine, no ?

Am i crazy ?[:0]

Something fishy about that one, Leclerc. I am sure that one of our resident experts will straighten this out.

I don’t think your crazy and knowing the Germans they could have a few hending in the city of Paris.I think that a few where at the port of Callaie and where taken back to Germany for defence. Also the Falaise gap happen before Paris was capture by the Allies. When Patton went aroung the right flank of the Germans during operation Cobra this cause the Falaise gap and hunting season was on.I do know that the King came out during the battle of the Boluge and was use then also was used heavily on the eastern front against the Russians.Digger

You are probably talking about the pics of Tiger II’s from the 3rd company of s.PzAbt. 503. They are not retreating. The 3rd company arrived by train in Paris in late August 1944. They moved through Paris on 31st of August to join the rest of the battalion.
The train journey to Paris was very hard and the train was attacked by Thunderbolts more than once, atleast one Tiger was lost in these attacks. 3rd company was under the command of Leutnant Scherff.
If you want more info you should consider the book “The combat history of schwere panzer abteilung 503” there is also a couple of pics of it in that book.

Ok thanks, i understand my mystake. The King tiger didn’t come from normandy and west battle, but it tried to join Paris from Germany by train.
I will have a look to the book.

TMN1,
welcome to the forums & thanks for the info!
