I have built several Kinetic F-16’s, but this is there “new tooled”, or improved F-16. Honestly, there isn’t much different from the original one, they aren’t the easiest builds, but I would do more, who doesn’t like an F-16? And I got the greys a bit off, I did use t he FS call outs, but they are too similar and hard to tell the demarcation between them.
@Grant_Dalzell I’m going to have to stop clicking on your threads, because it seems to always lead to another kit added to my stash. But your builds are so fine that I can’t stop!!
What makes the Kinetic F-16 a challenging build, out of curiosity?
I ask because while I am squarely focused on WWII for most of my builds, I have planned to make an exception for local birds – like this one, an F-16 in my hometown ANG base’s livery. I grew up watching these guys (and the F-4Ds before them) scream around northern MN. They still do, too!
Kinetic F-16’s are somewhat modular because they do so many variants which share parts. The worst part of this kit is the intake, having said that, I hate doing intakes! Just dry fit everything as you go and double check fits.
They may not be the easiest kits to build but they sure do build up nicely in the hands of a good modeler as seen here with this one. I’ve always been a Falcon fan for as long as I can remember and building the Monogram offering as a kid. I’ve never built one since but want to and may go with a Tamiya kit for it as I’ve heard some real nightmares about these Kinetic kits.
I worked around these aircraft in the real world and was always intrigued by them. Absolutely beautiful birds. I can tell you this…these things have GOT to be the loudest aircraft I’ve ever heard. When they took off from the airstrip I was stationed at in Korea they were so loud that it would hurt your ears if you didn’t have hearing protection on even from a distance.
I vaguely remember seeing the Thunderbirds team at Brisbane back in the 80’s but can’t remember the noise. I live near RAAF base Amberley. My measure used to be the F-111, very loud, now the Super Hornets, even louder and the F-35, extremely loud!
I can only imagine how loud the F-111 was as it’s a rather large aircraft. The F-35 I have no knowlege about either but once again…given the fact that it’s a VTOL…it’s just gotta be loud.
The loudest aircraft I ever heard was a Harrier. Saw one doing VTOL landing/takeoff at a CAF airshow in Harlingen, Texas some time in the late 70s.
Next loudest - F4 Phantom that participated in a Fourth of July celebration in about the year 2000 by flying from one end of Houston to the other along Interstate 10. I could hear him coming from miles away.
I second the harrier doing vtol, saw one doing tricks at the uss intrepid in the mid 90s.
