Kinetic 1/48 A-6E

Back to the hobby after a few decades and my how things have changed. My current interest is in Vietnam era Navy and Marine aircraft.

I’ve been looking at the Kinetic 1/48 A-6E, but it represents a relatively modern era A-6E. Can anyone tell me if this kit can be modified to represent a Vietnam era A-6E and what that might involve?

Thanks,

Randy

Stopped at the LHS this afternoon and spotted a Kinetic A-6A/E that’s Vietnam era. It’s in the back seat and problem solved.

Good luck with it! I just received my first Kenetic kit (the T-45C Goshawk with TwoBobs decals of the pre- WWII training paint scheme), and am looking forward to hearing others’ opinions of this manufacturer.

Post pics!! I have their F-16I Sufa and hear its decent. I’ve also heard that some of their kits can be a bit of a challenge.

A bit of a challenge for sure. I’m curious to hear from others with opinions or build experience who have built the Kinetic 1/48 A-6A/E. This is my first Kinetic kit and second overall since returning to the hobby after 20 or so years. I just started the build and so far I’m finding many ill fitting parts and less than clear instructions/drawings.

I started with the cockpit and the tub required quite a bit of carving and adjusting to get it to fit right in the fuselage and then interferes with the intake compressors. The fuselage bottom center section took quite a bit of fitting as the tabs holding it were too long not allowing a tight seam and too thick not allowing a flush fit. The radome is going to require lots of sanding/blending for a good fit to the fuselage. The canopy, yikes, I’m not sure any amount of sanding/carving is going to make this look right. So far just about every part or assembly I’ve touched has needed adjusment and fitting.

Is this typical for Kinetic kits, this Kinetic kit in particular or did I just get a lemon. I’m about to put it back in the box and write it off.

I don’t know much about the Kinetic kit Randy. I am building the Revell A6-E TRAM at the moment, and perfect fit of parts has not been an issue with it.[;)] However, with careful testing and fitting, it’s going together well. Have you searched around the 'net to find other opinions or reviews or builds of the kit? Might be helpful. Good luck, and keep us up to date.

I’ve built the Kinetic 1:48 F5 Freedom Fighter. It was not an easy kit and like you I experienced quite a few issues with fitting parts…For the money I spent on it I would not buy kits from this company again.
