Kind of on a tight schedule here, trying to get this bad boy done before Xmas. It is a commission job, a gift for a customer’s Father in Law who is a Korean War US Air Force vet. He was an armorer for the F-86.
Anyway, FINALLY a 1/32nd Korean War F-86. Kinetic has fielded a pretty nice kit. The Super detailers out there will have opportunities galore with this kit, as and engine, dolly and open bays are provided. I may purchase this kit for myself and do an all out build once I’ve had the chance to do more research.
Build is OOB other than the excellent Avionix resin seat, which came from the Avionix set for the Hasegawa kit. The kit decals were used. These decals were very hard to apply, in that they are so thin that GREAT CARE must be taken when applying.
I used my proven method on the NMF, polish the plastic, prime with Future, and then Tamiya AS 12 and Alcad II to break up the panels.
Steve, Its great to finnaly see one built. How did it go overall? You did an excelent job on it.I`m glad you posted the pics. Again, great job…MERRY CHRISTMASS
Steve, well done [tup] Glad to see that new kit built up! I just got mine a couple of weeks ago and though it had alot of promise. You show that is does. Bravo!
Really beautiful model. Great close up pictures. The cockpit looks very well detailed. NMF is very smooth and the decaling looks great too. What kind of camera did you use to get those closeup pics?
The kit is generally good, there are some issues with fit up but nothing extreme. I used a minimum of filler. The rivet detail is a little soft, and the sprues and gates are huge. I would definitely go with some AM for the cockpit. I used sidewall, seat, stick, rudders etc. all from the Avionix resin set, made for the Hasegawa. Sadly, you can’t use the cockpit tub on the Kinetic kit, as the cockpit floor is part of the gun bay and intake tube on the Kinetic kit. I used the decals for the fuselage bands and I wish I would have masked and painted. They look great, but man they were tough. I used Solvaset to snuggle them down.
Like I said earlier, for guys that like to wire engines and split the fuselage to show it, this is an ideal platform. I recommend this kit.
Jeremias, thanks for the info. Im building an OLD Hasegawa f86. Just finished up fitting the pit tub and back of seat area in. Using an older CAM resin set with eduards pe. Combinding both. With the resin tub, Im using the Eduard seat and dash with the levers ECT. Have the front cut out for the resin gunsight also. Also I`m going with Cuting Edge drop tanks,Aires resin guns(just one side, 3 guns) and Eagle strike decals, Paper Tiger flown by Capt. Fischer Hope it comes out half as good as yours. Happy Holidays…
I wish I coudl see the recipient’s face when he get that bad boy. Real nice. Nice detail in that pit. At 1st I thoughthe entire pit was resin set, not just the seat.
