Hi All,
I finally got to see Sky Captain I thought it was entertaining and I wish
I could find a submersible P-40! But what Is bothering me was the previews,
Someone is remaking Flight of The Pheonix. Though the previews looked
ok, it bothers me that Flight is a classic and no Jimmie Stuart, I don’t know
what do you folks think?

A remake of “Flight of the Phoenix”? [:0]
That’ll be a tough act to follow - that flick had a great cast. Jimmy Stewart, Ernest Borgnine. . . who am I forgetting?
The Flight of the Pheonix is also dedicated to the stunt pilot who died flying the Pheonix for the movie. I hope somewhere in the new one they recognise his sacrifice, because there would not have been a movie to remake without his courage.
The movie is a classic and I for one will stick with that one.
The pilot that died was Paul Mantz the senior 1/2 of Tallmantz avaition with Frank
Tallman. I hope nobody died this time. They probably used models and/or computer
graphics. Besides I don’t think there are any flyable 119s anyway!(I’m probably
wrong about that but…

The classics can never be replaced. Copied… but never replaced! I just hope that the sprit of the original is carried over to the new movie. I am a real movie buff and can appreciate a remake but not if they screw it up. I have seen the preview and I have to admit… It looks pretty cool [8D]
…Richard Attenborough (The old man who developed and owned ‘Jurrasic Park’), George Kennedy…others that I recognize but can not remember their names.
I like the idea of a remake. It is a risk that if it bombs then the current generation may loose interest in ever seeing the original.
I think Dennis Quaid has the Stewart role in the remake.
Well, I tell ya… I’ve not seen ‘Flight of the Pheonix’ from beginning to end; only clips here and there, and so I have no comment on that flick. But I do believe you can always improve on any old film, especially with filmmaking being what has been in the past and what it can be these days. Of course, you can also make a REALLY bad film, but that’s for another thread…
Anyhoo, another classic is ‘Battle of Britain’. I love that flick, it’s in the regular rotation as my ‘favorite movie of all time’ and even though it’s got Hispanos instead of real 109’s, I can see little in it to sway it from my favor.
Having said that, I believe that it can be improved upon in many ways and actually do wish that we could have a new ‘Battle of Britain’ film which is along the same lines as the original, as regards storyline and such. Despite my love for the original flick, I’d welcome a new version with open arms.
I guess there is a BoB movie coming out soonly, with Tom Cruise starring, but I dunno what the storyline is to be like and I guess I’ll just have to wait and see…
I say it’s a good thing that they should cover ‘Flight of the Pheonix’. If the new one sucks, then it’s just more fuel for the ‘classic’ fire under the original. But if it’s a hit and is done well, then it’ll be just one more great film in the annals of Hollywood history…
Fade to Black…
Apparently most of the people in Hollywood are not bright enough or too lazy (or both) to think up new ideas or situations for movies. And most of them don’t give a damn about historical accurracy either. I have yet to see a re-make that is as good as the origional. What are they going to screw up next, To Kill a Mockingbird, Casablanca or perhaps 12 O’clock High? Besides which, there are very few actors (or actresses) out there that can be rated with the likes of Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart or Gregory Peck. (Sean Connery, Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman come to mind). Given my druthers, I’ll take the origional any time. Sorry about the rant

The aircraft in the origional Flight of the Phoenix wasn’t a Buck 19. It was a C-82 Packet which was the older brother of the C-119. Powered by R-2800s, it was smaller. Don’t believe there are any even left in the world, at least flying. On a side note, TWA maintained a C-82 in Europe up until about 1980, using it to fly engines and parts to its various hubs.
I can think of atleast one remake type of movie that was pretty good. How about “Always” with Richard Dreyfus and I think Holly Hunter, that guy who was married to Roseann, and some Howie look alike? It was based on the old Spencer Tracey " A GUY NAMED JOE". Even if the story line was hokey the flying scenes and special effects were fantastic.[2c]
I dislike most remakes of any movie. I want to see sometghing differnt and entertaining when I go to the movies. Not something that 's been done before but a differnt cast. All I end up doing is compair it to the original. Don’t get me started on colourizeing classic b&w movies…
The last remake I saw was ‘The Time Machine’. It wasn’t a patch on the George Pal original
