Hey guys I’ve got a 1/16 scale Peterbilt tractor coming shortly and I need some good tips on getting a great finish.[:D] I want to do a base coat/clearcoat high gloss finish. I do mostly military aircraft so not a whole lot of high gloss. Should I wet sand the base[?]. Bake it under a lamp[?]. What kind of gloss or clearcoat should I use? A regular gloss laquer? Help me out I’m askin the pros!!![;)] Thanks in advance for any help it is greatly appreciated.

I would do things basically the same as you have with aircraft, then use Future to coat it, and polish it with a soft polishing cloth.
one simple , yet maybe not very popular way to get a pretty good finish is to use flat paint then top coat with clear , then rub on a really good coat of mequiers wax. ive done this on a few of my models and they come out pretty good. it seems to be harder to run flat paint than it does gloss paints, and putting the clear over the flat lets you see just were youve been so you can get a really even layer on. hope this helps

(1) Remove Flash
(2) Rub with #0000 Steel Wool
(3) Wash/Dry
(4) Spray Paint or Airbrush color
(5) Wait 2 days, then lightly correct any imperfections with #0000 Steel Wool.
(6) Apply *Testors" Gloss Coat
(7) Wait 2 days
(8) Apply Decals
(9) Wait 1 day
(10) Apply 2nd coat of Gloss Coat
(11) Wait 2 days, then rub/buff in Mequiers Wax
This will render a nice deep finish, especially true with metal flake type finishes, and decals will appear to be part of the finish itself.
A 3rd coat of Gloss Coat before waxing is optional, just allow good dry time between coats. The waxing creates the “Metal” look.
