After use, I collect them and then remove the tops and the filter on the inside. It all comes out in one piece, put a little dab of glue to seal the bottom hole and I have instant paint pots no throwing them away if you can use them after you use them, throw them away
Gee:
And here I thought I was the sneakily smart guy on this one. I have found a way to clean them. Yes, Clean them and use them to filter paint for the A/B. It works!, Don’t laugh!
As one who occasionally scratch-builds ‘weird’ stuff like made-up spaceships and submarines, any and every ‘pod’ shape gets saved as potential future cargo/fuel/sensor candidates. As for paint…I’ve got a lifetime supply of clear blow-molded plastic bubbles of the sort Chick-fil-A sauces come in, purchased in bulk for pennies back in the '90s, that are my go-to for doing a quick mix-and-throw away job.
Whatever works! [Y][:D]
I also have a large supply of salad dressing containers from Dions
My employeer is nice enough to provide half and half for coffee in Land-0-Lakes mini-moos, and those little cups are agreat for mixing up paint and pouring it into an airbrush. (They have a pour spout). I bet any single serve Half and Half container would work too.
Bottle lids of all sorts.
My favorite are my wife’s contact lens cases. Little tiny mixing cup or glue cup!
Very resourceful reuse ideas mentioned. I save all of the disposable condiment cups.
Nice idea, can also see how they might be used for scratch building as well.
I have found my people.
Right on.
Meaning, we are hobbyists and we save and see anything for our next build. Case in point, the breathable sac that bulk garlic is stored in
These sacs, I carefully save, cut open, paint then and boom! A camouflage net I can use over a plane, truck, tank whatever.
I did put a pile of then together to hide under, but alas, the wife found me……
LOL!
Great tip btw.
Glad to help…
I did another that went unnoticed. Wheel weights! Went to a local garage and most are using the sticky weights. As the industry moved away from lead for environmental codes, these are great to use on heavier butt planes (A-10). They already come with tape and it is padded. My local garage gave me 15-20 of them. You will need a dermal to form it for tight spots. Wear a mask if your are shaving it….
Exactly! My wife rolls her eyes at some of the things I save.
And great tip for camo netting! I’m off to free our onions from their mesh hell!
Mine “gets it” but she still thinks I’m half for coming up with some of the things that we scale modelers do.
Thanks for the awesome tips everyone! Some of them I’ve used and some of them are new and I’ll definitely try in the future. Modelers are either the most creative or the “cheapest” hobbyists.
My wife prefers Nespresso pods
My wife caught on to my repurposed CoziShack plastic pudding containers stash and started using them too, for her paint mixes. Especially for acrylic pouring. But I’ve been mixing my Color blends and primer before spraying in the same two cups for a year now. Quick swish out, wipe down with paper towel and they’re ready for the next round. Although yesterday I decanted some Rustoleum 2x semigloss black enamel, thinned a bit more with LT. The paint was drying in the cup when I got back too it to clean it up, and didn’t clean up so hot, so debating chucking that one… But otherwise , a year is a good run for something that was trash destined anyway.
During a build these cups are great to hold small parts, pins, little screws , what ever. I also have a package of 100 with snap on lids I got from Amazon, but I like those food cups better, really.
These are great for getting your night time pills and vitamins transported upstairs too.
