Kate camo painted

Another one of my current projects is Hasegawa’s beautiful Nakajima B5N “Kate.” I’m using Eduard’s equally nice PE set as well.

I got the camo painted today. The markings diagram suggests an unpainted lower surface, but the pics of these aircraft I’ve found show it as painted. This left me with two color options - Nakajima Navy Gray Green, or Nakajima Amber Gray (Ame-iro). Since I believe that these aircraft had the Nakajima Navy Green applied to the topsides before the Pearl Harbor raid, I figured that they were probably Amber Gray overall before the repaint.

The colors (Nakajima Navy Green, Nakajima Amber Gray, Cowl Blue Black) are all WEM (White Ensign Models) enamel Colourcoats. The “China Brown” on the tail is a slightly lightened Primer Red Brown. The wheel wells will be painted once the aircraft has been decalled, washed, and semi-glossed. There are quite a few PE items to add here, and I don’t want to mask over them.

The engine, torpedo, and gear are next on the “to do” list.

Another fine build there Pix.

I agree. Looking good so far.

Lookin’ good. I just have to ask, though: Is that grab-handle on the cowl for the benefit of the guy who rides on the outside of the plane???

She’s looking Great !

Keep it up
