Karl Gerat wheels

Anybody out there know weather (or is it wether?) the wheels on the Dragon ‘Karl’ are rubber tyred. The real one in the Kublanka appears to have rubber tyres on the return rollers. However this vehicle is either the prototype or the pre-production model as it has the earlier susspension. Any ideas?[:)]

Arnie, I am sorry I don’t have any information for you. I do know that either Squadron/signal or Schiffer publishing has a book on the German big guns. Good luck.

The Karl at Kubinka has the production series suspension with the steel rimmed road wheels. The prototype has a different suspension design where the trailing arms of the torsion bars are seen outside of the road wheels, as on the 1/72 scale Hasagawa kit. I can’t really tell from the few photos I have, but it appears that both variants have rubber return rollers.

Thanks for the help re: wheels. Now - any ideas how the driving compartment opened[:D]

I believe the driver’s compartment was closed with a fitted canvas cover. I have a few photos of the rear of the vehicle which show the driver’s compartment. The cover is off and is nowhere to be seen, which at least means it was not hinged. It might be the indistinct object I see wadded up on the engine deck.
