Wanted to get some suggestions on the proper color for interiors of Japanese planes like cockpit and landing gear bays. I have seen some pix done with something similar to green chromate. Can anyone pass on any info or resources on what they actually used when the planes were actualy built and what modeling colors come close. Thanks.
It appears that each aircraft manufacturerer used a color of their own choice. In the case of the Zero, that would be Mitsubishi and Nakajima. Mitsubishi used a green color in the cockpit that is very close to 34151 US Interior Green. You can use any brand of paint out there for that. Nakajima used a lighter grayish green shade. Both Tamiya and Gunze Sangyo make this color in their line-Tamiya’s is “cockpit green” XF-71, and GS in their Mr Color line is “Nakjima interior green”. Landing gear bays were “Aotake”, which was a transluscent blue green coating over the metal.
