On one of my first attempts to use crazy glue, sitting at our expensive, new dining table, I tipped the tall, skinny bottle over and instantly had a small lake of the stuff just waiting to do evil. Fortunately, I’d covered the table with a plastic drop sheet, but in my haste to soak up the crazy glue with a paper towel, I managed to get it on my hands, my cutting pad, and on some tools.
The paper towel didn’t burn or even smoke, but some of my fingers were glued together and laminated with paper towel scraps, and the tools, while useable, look a permanent mess. It took me the better part on an hour to unstick my fingers, using lots of hot water and soap, a stiff nail brush, and not-very-effective nail polish remover that my wife has. I even removed some skin from my fingertips in the process.
OUCH!!! Now that is a bad spill and the worst of all. At least with paint one can clean up things but CA will do some crazy things to finishes and skin.[:O]
Now that you’ve been initiated into the “I spilled (fill in the blank) and made a huge mess” club, your next stop is the “Guess how many stitches I got for this goof up?!?” club.
Hint; don’t sit at the bench in bare feet, flip flops, crocks, or anything else less than armored boots. And be very careful to hold onto the knife.
Knocked over a bottle of thin CA, most ended up on a pants leg. Got hot and smoking almost instantly. Managed to not stick to leg, but cloth was brittle as glass and broke cleanly in two when bent.
Agree with Cat, mumbly peg with a #11 blade is a loosing proposition.
Ah yes, the ever enjoyable fast setting CA. Get’s hot too!! I ve several pairs of, now work pants, that have little hard darker spots on them form CA. And the Xacto! if it rolls off the workbench…let it go and hope it doesn’t fall blade down into your foot. I’ve heard too many storys of folks trying to catch the errant xacto knife.
Why do you think the Testers liquid glue is in a square bottle? So dummies like me don’t spill them as much. I can’t tell you how mant bottles of paint, glue, microsol ETC I’ve spilled. And as for the knife, when I was your age my parents were constantly taking me down to the emergency room to sew my thumbs back together. I thought for the longest time my thumbprints would never grow back to normal.
But like everything else in life, this too shall pass
Try applying CA glue to a piece held between thumb and forefinger and middle finger, and watching as you realize that the glue is flowing down into your fingers. Then try opening the can of acetone, popping the safety cap with a screwdriver. That was fun. In the end, I had to agree with the manufacturer’s claim of quick-flowing and fast-curing.
Just get an X3724 blade handle and you’ll never have to worry about a knife rolling off the bench and getting you again. Got one just because my cat likes to come up and “help” me sometimes. [:D]
Also found out I need to be more careful about leaving straight-edged razor blades on the benchtop for any length of time beyond a couple of seconds. The cat actually, quite easily, picked one up by hooking it with a single claw…then…HE POPPED IT RIGHT INTO HIS MOUTH AND RAN OFF! I thought I had killed my cat! Luckily, I just avoided a panic response to run after him and just followed him slowly. He turned and looked at me, and then just dropped it like it was nothin, since I wasn’t making it fun for him by chasing him. No injuries. WHEW!!!
