I am coming back to this wonderful hobby after 25 years of idling or some of you my call it hibernation.
well finaly I got a bit of time and money but hand is not stady as used to be and my sight is getting bad.
My main interest are Helicopters and back in old days I used to follow interest in RAF SOE planes like Wimpy, Halifax or Liberator. My dream is to get 1/32 B24 Lib and build model in RAF SOE Special Duty Flight from 1944 version… may be Hong Kong Models will release one before I expire. That is my wish.

We just keep getting higher magnification glasses (or aids) and find ways to help steady the hands so we can continue building. Welcome to the club.
Well my come back is not as smooth as I thought it will be. On a plus side - big improvement in kits quality and detail , high quality in many kits , many new companys on the market ,but my biggest disappointment- lack of old fashioned Hobby Storres and introduction of Acrylic paints. ( I know we must be Eco friendly) Internet is flooded with Valejo, Lifecolour ,Italeri, Andrea but I was unable so far to find in US my favorite brand Mr. Color by Gunze Sangyo. Back in a days I was a big fan of Humbrol enamels but again hard to obtain in US.
By a few strokes on key board you can order specific kit from Japan or Europe but not a paint. With international restriction on paints and LiPo batteries it is a pain on the neck to get what you want.
Well, most of my paints and supplies I get are from the internet. I am one of the lucky ones though. I have a HLS and HL nearby.
Yes, acrylics have really come on strong the last several years. Acrylics have also increased in quality. There are some members here that are very knowledgeable regarding paint mixes, both acrylic and enamels, as well as the best manufactures for you particular application. My knowledge level is about 5% of what they know and I know enough to do a fair job.
For any paint questions just pose you can inquire in the paint section, and set back and watch the answers flood in.
Don’t despair, lots of folks still use solvent-based paints. It’s just that as you say, you’re not likely to find them at your hobby shop down the street. (because the shop has been closed for 25 years).
I feel you pain about the overall lack of the local hobby shops, but it’s just the way it is now.

Well sorry to say Avenel is going out of business by the end of July.You still may want to check out the clearance.Very sad to loose another one though.
There was a very large LHS named “Railyard Hobbies” opened in Elverson, Pa. about 1/2 hour from me about 3 years ago. Never had a chance to go there until a few weeks ago and found out that they are closing as of Aug. 1st. A couple club members have gone there and said the same thing I did about the place. Great shop but extremely bad location. The GPS couldn’t find it. It’s in an industrial park off the beaten path. Everything is 30 to 35% off until Aug,1st.
