Just Got Tamiya HANOMAG Sdkfz25I/I

If ya havent all noticed but i got the WWII armour bug and just got this kit in 1/35.

Anybody built it??
If so let us know how it went!!
It looks a pretty plain kit but with a few bits of detailing it should come up nicely?
Thanks
Robert

Yes Robert, I have and it is a very old kit. Biggest drawback are the crummy tracks. They will need to be tied or glued down. It’s not par with the latest offererings from Dragon or AFV, but it can be made up into a nice build with some TLC.

Thanks Tiger
Yeah it is an old kit first done back in '73.
But as you say with a little or heaps of TLC it should come out looking aright!!
BTW Spose ya dont know where there are any reviews on this one?
Thanks Again
Robert

Ive built both that exact one, and also Dragon’s 251C. It’s kinda amazing how diffrent they end up looking when their done. That said, it is a decent kit for it’s age, and doens’t look too bad when finished. The biggist thing I see with it is the lack of backrest/storage containers in the passanger area. The figures are a really nice addition too. Good luck on it, and with a little bit of work, should make a very decent looking model!

I don’t for it is a pretty old kit. The onliners tend to go with newer kits.

this kit is only good for the good old blitzkriegs days for the german diorama …

The kit goes together pretty straight forward. I cant remember any major difficulties. The only problem is the lack of an interior. You can either cover it up with a tarp, or scratchbuild an interior (not too hard)

here are some interior pics

Some are of ausf D’s instead of c’s. But I belive that the interiors are pretty much the same, except for the doors and seats.

wood seats = an ausf D

go through these pics if you have DSL. (there are quite a few). the 3rd pic is an interior shot of an ausf C. you can tell by the doors.

there were review of that kit but there on old tablets at the museum
you might find some hidden i a local cave[:-,]

Hmm, what an oldie. What made you decide on this one and not on one of the new Dragon offerings?

Build it up and give it a nice paint job and enjoy!

Wooty, the old Tamiya one is supposed to be a rarer rivetted Ausf C version (as opposed to welded). This is a link to a walkaround of the Tank Museums rivetted vehicle - only drawback is you have to register before you can access the big pics. That is not a drama as it is free and the reply email is fast.

The old kit shows its age in many respects, and any review would take accuracy into consideration and therefore would tell you to get Dragon’s instead. I suggest you build it OOB and have some fun, 'cause if you want to accurise it, you are in for a lot of work. Only change OOB would be to omit the water tank (step 1 in the instructions) as that was only ever fitted to the 251/8 ambulance version (Tamiya used the Bovington one as a reference back then, but Bovingtons was originally a 251/8 and they just retro fitted it to make it an infantry carrier - DML made the same mistake in their first Ausf C issue, but have corrected it since.)

Problems with the old kit are:
Vehicle is 5-6mm too narrow;
Torsion bars are not offset so road wheels are in line;
Tracks lack inside detail, are not well detailed outside and are the same length but should be different lengths to account for the offset road wheels;
Front suspension is over scale, simplistic and lacks steering arms, etc
Front road wheels are wrong size;
Rear door mechanism is innacurate in size, shape and detail;
Rear seats are completely wrong shape, are on raised posts (should be on rectangular stowage boxes - the seats were raised to access the MG 34 ammo;
Front seats are wrong shape and have no rear backing spring detail;
There is no internal detail for vision slit visors, in fact, virtually no front details at all;
The armoured plates bolted to the inside of the rear cargo area and beside the radio operator have been omitted;
The flanges on the inside hull sides, where the rear cargo area was bolted to the cab, are missing;
etc, etc, etc.

As I said, build it for fun… but if you want to accurize it, I can send you some pics of the DML Ausf C kit which you could use as a guide to scratchbuilding some of the changes (even they forgot the steering arm), but by the time you buy the styrene etc to fix the old kit, you would have been better off paying AUD $50 for the DML one anyway.

Nice to see another Aussie in here too by the way

Hmmm After reading all this it makes me want to through it ???
But i shall build it for fun anyway’s
Thanks All
Robert
