I am sure there’s plenty of places in the US that i have not heard of. Of course many places there are named after towns or counties here, and i reckon anyone who is interested in things military has heard of Norfolk Virginia. And i reckon theres plenty of Brits who couldn’t tell you were Norfolk in England is, and we are a lot smaller than you are.

And thank you. You said you were stationed there, were you in the Navy?

Don’t want to hijack so a big from me too! But Bish, have you ever heard of East Liverpool? I was born there (parents born in England) but it seems to me it’s very far west of the REAL Liverpool. BTW the East Liverpool I was born in is in Ohio. Anyway, welcome back and thanks for your service Duogrey (and Bish).

Your a braver man than me. I spent a week on a ship going round the falklands. We never got more than 10 miles from land, that as more than enough from me.

I was in the Infantry and i did a few different things. As well as a regular GRUNT, i spent some time in unit intelligance, a few years in our MILAN paltoon, thats a wire guided AT weapon system. Also spent a few years driving Warriors. And some time in the stores. I spent my last 5 years attached to a unit called JHSU. We worked closely with helicopters doing underslung loads mainly.

22 years is the max you can do as an OR in the British Army, except under certain circumstances. I did apply to stay on, but given the curret cutbacks, i didn’t have high hopes. I only came out in Oct.

Mine sweeping, now thats a job and a half.

Theres quite a few ex service on here. There may even be the odd one form the airforce (well, we have to humour them don’t we) . You should be well at home.

[:D] Seriously, I was in Desert Storm (and many trips afterwards) and I had the absolute honor and pleasure of working with the Brits and Aussies! Great bunch of troops that worked hard and partied harder. I thought I could hold my own when it came to drinking, but good night! Is that part of your training!? To our brothers in arms! [B]

Well, the Brits are well known for being boozers.If the night hasn’t ended covered in sick and laying in the gutter, it wasn’t a proper night out. And i don’t think the Aussies are far off.

And its all good banter. Were would we be without the good old RAF. Walking a lot more probably.

I had a buddy who crew swapped with some Australian Navy squids. He loved the fact that they all got to drink booze at the end of the day onboard their ship. US Navy isn’t allowed booze unless we are out to sea more than 45 days, and then it’s only 2 beers per sailor…

Really. I spent a week on board an RN sub, just cruising around the channel, they had plenty of bear of there. I would imagine there is a limit on RN ships, i would guess 2 cans a day while at sea. Thats what we were limited to when we were on tours like Ireland and bosnia.

But once they get on shore, those navy boys can drink.
