This is the 1/32 Hasegawa G-14 built as a tall-tail/Erla-hooded G-6 in service with the Swiss Air Force. Major markings (crosses, J-704 stencils) were provided by Scale Precision Masks, and the smaller decals were nabbed from the kit sheet. Aftermarket includes Eduard interior zoom set, RB microtextile belts and photoetch radiator grilles, Quickboost guns, Master Detail stabilizers and Aires tires. Paint was overwhelmingly Gunze Mr. Color.
That’s an awesome build…it looks great. I really like the antennae wire.
Here’s my question, and it isn’t about “your” model. Why would the Swiss go through the trouble of camouflaging the plane, then add the bright red and white? Would that defeat the purpose of the camouflage?
Love her Doogs, great work! I love the red and white stripes, very eye-catching. Considering the time of year somehow she puts me in the mood for candy canes though!
As for the camoflage, I have no idea! The early Swiss 109s (a few 109Ds and a small fleet of 109E-3s) were done up in overall dark green over blue with more subtle markings. Big red patches on the fuselage and under the wings with the white cross in them, and smaller red circles on the upper wings. As Allied aircraft became something the Swiss had to worry about, though, they put the candy canes on their 109s to differentiate them from the Luftwaffe.
When they got their G-6s, they were all finished in standard 109 RLM 74/75/76 camo, just got the neutrality stripes and other Swiss goodies. J-704 is a bit different since it crashed and was essentially rebuilt. Which means they actually painted it camo, then put the stripes on. Maybe it was just a ground crew having some fun?
Another great build Doogs! Man, you got it goin’ on; you sure build some nice planes! I like the unusual nature of this 109 too. We don’t see many aircraft from the Swiss Air Force. Great looking plane!
Man you do a great job on these things. [Y][Y] It’s always a pleasure checking out your finished builds. Very cool subject too.
I used to build planes way-way back. I switched to armor sometime in there and haven’t ventured back. I have a few Hasagawa kits in my stash (1/32 109G6, 190A8 and 190D9, 1/48 109G14) that I will try in the semi-near future. I’m gonna have to read through some of the build/GB threads to get some pointers, especially on painting these birds…
