My jaunt in the field is almost over, Iget to go back to good ol’ schweinfurt in a few days ( I can’t wait ).
this was probably the longest month in my life on this one.
Coming home almost makes the time away worth while. 6 months at a shot was almost too much for me (Once in '98, again in '00) A bit early, but welcome home, Red!

Redleg, are you on a Paladin? We shot up some nasty White bag (1953 lot number) last weekend, which left the obturator with a fuzzy gray crud on it after each round[xx(]… stunk the H outa the cab too! We were supposed to get some new charges (you know what I mean), but I guess the system wants the Guard to shoot up its old stuff first!
How ever, all in all, any successful shoot is a good shoot, eh?[:D]

it must’ve came from the same batch but we had some white bag like that to, 1953- 1954- 1955, but our green bags were very new and had all new cannisters? go figure?
One of our tricks is to after the last round just soak the hell out of the tube and the breach with CLP and LSA (the semi fluid stuff for the MK 19) that usually works well so by the time you hit the trackpark or if you wait till the rear it’s reall easy to clean, also put 3 green pads on the bore brush with a good coat of CLP, you’ll love the results.
I remember Schweinfurt Redleg… Spent a few months there back in the 80’s… Fun place… Almost as much as Area “Mud” and Graff… ![]()

Don’t forget to take the bore evac off and get all the clp and slime out as well or you’ll get a hell of a flash out the tube, maybe even a bigger bang and no tube (or at least that’s what our higher uppity up mech wrechs say )
you also gotta love the CARC paint jobs that always look like they have that film on them and make smoke go crazy about the wash rack, hahaha.

The bore evac comes off?? Do you have to take the muzzle brake off too? LOL! This weekend, I asked our mech types where our ‘hydraulic lift’ was for the muzzle brake… the TM shows using one to ease it to the ground, isn’t that the way it’s supposed to be done? Heck, up to now, we’ve been having strong backs do it all!
I guess we’re just a bunch of dummies around here.[;)] (It would be nice to have something other than US to take that thing off though!)

I assume you’re talking about a quick punch out in the field to clean the crud and such out… usually done without pulling the brake or evac… right?
