Junkers Ju 52/3m D-ABIK 'Manfred von Richthofen' (Italeri 1/72

First airliner ever since I came back into the hobby. However, I don’t really like modern ones, they’re very similar to each other. Interwar airliners are, however, really cool looking.

Here’s my effort at the Italeri Ju 52/3m in Lufthansa markings. It has the Imperial Germany flag painted instead of using the decal (I’m really proud of how it came out). Landing gear fairings and nose weren’t difficult to paint, but needed a bit of masking.

Decals were a bit of a chore, because of my own doing and age of the decals. In order ti avoid them from breaking due to age, I coated them THREE times with Liquid Decal Film. This made the carrier film very thick and impervious to setting solutions. Repeated applications of Mark Softer somehow managed to force them slightly into the corrugations. I should have kept brushing it until the decals looked better.
The second decal issue was with one of the big Richthofen names, the left side decal began to lift from the model. No other option than to remove it with tape and use the incorrect Ricthofen decal.

I enjoyed the build though, and now I’m with an itch for interwar airliners, maybe I should get the nice yet challenging Roden He 111C in 72nd.

That tri-motor looks pretty good in those markings. I’ve tried that kit… it didn’t last long…never even made it to paint.

Nice job! I shy away from the corrugated birds. Maybe consider this new one next - super early transport/airliner

I’ve always liked the Ju-52 in civilian markings. Your build looks fantastic.

Really nice job on that Junkers! They’re such a cool bird with a fascinating story, and this livery just rings with that history. Awesome build.
