I found something interesting while watching the video Semper Fi. It is a Tank of the J Company called Juarez. We do not know the cause. Why calling a tank after a foreign leader. Of course the UNited States were important in the Mexican Republic’s cause aginst the Mexican Empire. Later on, Juarez was very important in the relationship between The United States and Mexico, but it is strange.
Here I post a couple of images, I hope there’s no problem 'cause its Imageshack.
Yes there is problem . Just click beside the thumbnail slightly touching it. It will open.
In Mexico City we organized an assembling group for the Juarez Sherman. It will begin on November 2nd, just after IPMS-Mexico Nationals.
Well, a couple answers for you. First, and most likely, since the tank was from “J” company according to your source, the name makes sense because a common practice was for all tanks from the company to be named with names starting with words of the same letter as the company. Or, possibly, whoever named the tank was of Mexican heritage and chose to name the tank because of Juarez’ reputation.
Or could just have been from the border region of Texas. Ciudad Juarez is right across the Rio Grande from me here in El Paso. [;)] There were many Hispanic/Mexican-Americans who served in the armed forces in WW2 in all theaters. They weren’t subject to the same kind of segregation as other minorities such as African Americans, Japanese Americans, etc.
Those are part of our hipothesis. But this is a modelling forum, so as soon as w begin assembling, I will post advances.
In those days Cd. Juárez and El Paso were practically the same city. It could have been a way of naming your tank like your city in spite of being of a J company instead of an E company. Myabe the tank was donated by US nationals living in El paso, or maybe something else.
