Ju 87 Stuka GB

They look pretty good there aj.

Gary, she’s coming along nicely. Sorry to hear about the layoff. Things will get better.

AJD, paint job is looking good from here.

Gary… Ditto what Greg said, …Hang in there bro…

Gary…good luck on finding something new, hope it’s soon and everything works out for you. I’m being jerked around by the AZ DOC, was suppose to start the academy Monday morning (after being out 4 years) only to be told Friday afternoon I’m on hold till ??? I’m doing a slow steam over that one.

I normally don’t prime my aircraft builds, just the 1/6th figures but I think I will with this bird. And I will give that Tamiya surface primer a shot.

Still puttering around on the bird, have just glued the lower wheel assemblies to the wing and letting it set. Sanded some of the seams. I was planning on using the Master Model Brass machine gun set for the wing guns but since I wanted to glued the access panels in the closed position, there was just a tiny portion of the gun barrel extending from the wing gun ports so I figured it would be a waste of a good set and I used the kit parts instead.

Will try to post some pics later.

Despite the airbrush/paint problems, I have had fun building this kit. So much that I migbt try another. Dies abyone have anything to say about the Airfix Ju 87-B kit?

AJ…Not sure what scale you’re looking into but if you’re wondering about the Airfix 1/24th kit, that’s the one I’m working on here and I give it 2 thumbs up. It does have a few minor seam problems here and there but it does go together better than their other earlier 24th scale kits.

aj, if its the 48th kit, I believe that’s a good one. I know Eagle is due to start his soon, so it might be worth keeping an eye on that.

AJ, like Bish said, I have the 1/48 Airfix 87-B kit (A05100). Got it as a gift from a very good friend…and you know who you are! [;)] Thank you again!

She looks to be a great kit! I did the Mono 87 not too long ago and it was a great kit, and this one looks to be even better! Much more detail! Can’t wait to start her! If you are thinking about getting the kit, do it! I’d be happy to send you some pics of the kit and all if that would help in any decision making you might have. Just let me know.

Well eagle, I had the same problem with the Printscale decals as you had. They just fell to pieces the moment they touched water. I’m not happy about it at all. I was really looking forward to having a Bulgarian Stuka, to stand out from the norm. So those decals were trashed, and my kit is a 1983 boxing, so the already suspect Monogram decals are 31 years old, and worked marginal at best. So I’m having to piece together decals of the Monogram sheet, a Hobbycraft 109 sheet, and an Eagle Strike 190 sheet. Needless to say, the end result not be a depiction of an actual Stuka.

That a downer about those decals, was looking forward to a Bulgarian bird. Were they a new set of decals.

Hey AJ,

I hear ya. I had never seen decals crumble so quickly before. Very odd. Don’t think I’ll be getting any from them. Maybe it was just a bad batch or something.

Well my bench has been calling my name. Went in for the first time in months. Cleaned the cobwebs. Might try working on the 87 soon. Good to be back at it. John

Good to se you back John.

I’m in the same boat as you Commander John. Hit the bench maybe twice all summer. Work is slowing down finally and the Stuka is calling my name. I did order some resin radios from Quickboost. They are made for the Tamiya Storch kit but they are the same type used in the Ju 87D. I should be able to just cut them out and use them somehow. I also have a Phantom and Starfighter calling me too though, so competition between the 3 will be tough…

Good to se you Nathan, those radios should fit in easily enough.

John, good to see you back.

Nathan, you too, my man.

A few progress pics here, it’s coming along.

Got the cockpit glued to the r/h fuselage, sure hate to close her up

With the inboard wing stubs glued on.

With the landing gear installed, the tail is not glued yet till after painting.

Test fit of the 500KG bomb and release. Thought I had a real problem with the release arm as it did not fit the bomb until I realized there were two arms and I installed the wrong one, easy fix.

How it sizes up with the Monogram JU-87.

Need to get cracking on the engine now and I think that will be fun to tackle.

Wow! Now that’s a nice cockpit!

That is one sweet looking pit shooter. I imagine its quite easy to see in there even when its closed up.

The nice thing about this scale and kit is that I can easily continue to detail the cockpit after the fuselage is put together. Would like to see Trumpeter come out with a JU-87 Tank buster to add to their 24th scale line.
