Can someone please tell me what the cockpit colour of a JU 87B would have been? I have seen ii in RLM 66 and some in RLM 02 and the instructions in my 1/24 Heller call for a mix if green and grey.
Would they have been all grey or all green or a mix where the basic floor and sides and bulkheads woud be 02 with the controll boxes being 66?
The date for the swicth from 02 to 66 is a matter of debate. Some sources seem to say Nov 41, others earlier. There are certainly some images of aircraft in 1940 with the darker colour. Though the 41 date seems the most common given, and this is the date i work off unless if have pics of a specific aircraft as with all things German its never simple. There is a Ju 88A-1 in Norway which was painted 66 with no sign of 02 in the pit. The whole pit was the same colour except for the Instruments, which in all aircraft were a darker grey.
I hope you will post some pics of that build, i’ve got the Airfix kit in the stash and it looks amazing for its age.
Lik Bish said, the 88 found in Norway was an early machine, and there was no sign of 02 anywhere. It’s my belief Junkers used RLM 66 as early as Spring 1940. So I’d go with 66.
"This is a very difficult question to give a certain answer to!
The first Ju 87 B reached I./St.G. 162 in June 1938 and production of the A series ceased in August. The early B series aircraft seem to have had an RLM 02 interior. The B-2 prototypes were converted from A-1s in January 1939 and also had 02 interiors. By the end of March 1939 Junkers had delivered 187 B series aircraft and I believe all of them had 02 interiors. I also believe that aircraft delivered up to at least mid 1940 had 02 interiors, but there is some evidence of a darker interior, (presumably RLM 66) appearing around this time in some photographs. Whether this was factory applied or as a result of a refurbishment or overhaul I don’t know.
Rather like the Bf 109 E I would suggest using an RLM 02 interior for aircraft produced up to, say, the BoB period unless you have compelling evidence to the contrary.
Even more confusing are photographs of Ju some 87 Ds with a light (02) interior at a date when this would be unexpected

As I will do an early BoB 87 I went for the 02 as the 66 might make for a difficult to detail “dark cave” cockpit…I have to re-do my IP as I made this 66 - darn.
Here’s a few pics of the Airfix 1/24th Ju-87 I did the other year. I went with the RLM 02 for the cockpit. Though the kit is old it is truly a fun build with only a few minor fit issues.
Would like to see Airfix update the Stuka with a Ju-87G-2 version. That would be awesome!
That would be excellent, hopefully they won’t sit on releasing it like they did with their Intruder. And maybe there would be more AM sets available unlike the few there is for the Airfix bird.
Agreed, but i would not hold your breath. Its been on Hannants future releases list for about a year now. According to scalemates it was released in 2014, but they seem to be hanging onto it. The Trump site does not even mention it.
