Ju-290

Great idea, Swanny! It should be impressive when it’s finished.

Added bonus for me- I’m thinking of doing my own “monster-build” involving a 290- a Ju 290Z. (Think He-111Z, only bigger.) Any experience you get from this would be invaluable for my cause. [soapbox]

But enough about me. [:D] With your talent ([bow]), it should be great!

Keep taking those pills, Guys…

Tony

I know I’m stretching the thread here, but I notice in the evolution of this discourse there has been mentioned relatively recent injection molded kits of the Do-217 and the Condor, and it occurred to me that when you add the older AMT A-20 to that list…Wait, let me back up. Koster, in my opinion, is one of the finest, bar none, manufacturers of model kits anywhere, anyhow. Not for the amateur, not for the squeemish, but poor Mr. Koster, who runs a small business, seems to get pounced on by the big boys every time he releases one of his high quality multi-media kits, which take years to develop, and which is why his product list is so short. AMT comes out with a 1/48 A-20 a couple of years after his masterpiece. ProModeler did the same to him with the Do-217 (again, his is a masterpiece, but not for sissies), and now Trumpeter is trying to trump him with this Condor, which I probably will not buy just out of respect for Mr. K. (Not that I can afford one of his either, yet.) I mean, I’m no fool, I’m certainly not naive about business being business, but it’s kind of like seeing Squadron driving your LHS out of business. Yes, you have to be able to work with vac-form to make a Koster kit, which keeps a lot of people away. But there was a time when if you wanted certain kits, you had to go to Koster. I just hope he and others with businesses like his know there are modelers – and I am certainly among them – who appreciate what he is doing. He makes models for people who really love to make models. We almost lost AcMin to the big boys, and I’d hate to lose him to some gigantic Chinese (or any other country’s) firm for lack of support by the serious modelers out there.

Careful when wireing, i have done a spit fire and a Fokker with motors in 1/48th cool diorama, but had a melt down when trying to get some lights working, get rubber wraped wires thats where i went wrong. Also sketching a diagram/creating a flat plastic sheet of the plane helps decide the best way to have battiers and how the wires are going to fit in

Hey Sharkskin, that PM Do-217 … Bill did the masters for that. As far as cottage industry goes I have to agree that Bill Koster is far and above the best there is.

That 290Z would be a great Mistel… Is that why there’s an He-162 perched on top?

Swanny: I’m happy to know that the industry B. Koster came from still recognizes his genius. Thanks for the update.
Tom

Two things:

  1. The aircraft on the back is a Messerschmit Me 328 A-1, not a He 162. (Look closely- that’s what it is!)
  2. If you want the whole story from my end, check out the “Prototypes and Paper Projects” Group Build.

I was hoping to motorize mine, but the way things are going, due to budget cuts ([:D]), it doesn’t look too good for that. Unless you all know some tiny motors for less than $0.50 each!

Do you?

Not for 50 cents, but you can get tiny pager motors for a buck-fifty at www.sciplus.com. Sorry for the advertising, but that’s where I got mine.

Wow I just love the idea and the plane!

Matt, as everybody told you… GO FOR IT! Sure it will look great!
Have you guys tried the 0604 led´s? They´re REAL tinny… the problem is soldering…
About the motors…I use cellphone vibracall motors… they´re .4" long & .2" dia…
Take care U all!

Those motors in mine cost about .50 each. I’m sure I have a link for them around here somewhere.

I was going to get that kit, but the day I went to my local LHS, they had it in and also just recieved some consinment items, a Monogram DC-3, a Monogram Mig-15 Bis, and an Academy F-86F-30 Saber, all in 1/48 and they wanted 36$ for all of them, I just could not resist so I got thewm instead of the Ju-290. But now im kicking myself because I went to a model competition and at the vendors tables they had a C-47 for 10$, a Mig-15 for 5$, and an academy F-86F-30 Saber for 10$. If I had just waited I could have gotten the Ju-290 and all the other kits.[:(][banghead][censored][D)][|(]

But enough about my stupidity, go for it, it should be quite interesting to see i moterized, and if it comes from you It will be awsome[bow]

See ya

Vintage Aircraft

Really? Excellent! Now, is that normal retail price (like you could pick up at a shop), or only a website retailer price? And how does shipping add to that, if at all? You see, my project is challenging in two ways- the construction, and the fact I’m trying to do all this on a budget of about $90! Doable, but not by much.

Thanks, Swanny! Tell me as soon as you find that link! Man, if that works out, it could be a lifesaver!
