A new toy arrived yesterday, the Revell 1/72 Ju-290 A5. Wow, what a huge aircraft. Even sitting next to one of the 1/48 Marauders it quite a bit larger. So I’m looking through the box and marvelling at all the trees of parts when a mental lightning bolt strikes.
What do you think, a good idea???
The top of the fuselage is designed to be removable so I could put a battery pack in there. The rear turret could be rigged as the on/off switch. Maybe I can work some lights into it as well … hmmmm, fiber optics? Then again, maybe I’ve gone over the edge here and require professional care, long term professional care.
[:D]
go for it. PLEASE. with your skills it would be a fantastic build. besides then i could ask you for help when i get around to doing one.

Hey Swanny, just go for it ! The motorised, fully lit sounds awesome. My LHS is supposed to have the kit in next week and their holding one of Mirage’s new PZL-24’s for me. Want to see this one in the box before I buy as I don’t usually trust Revell much. Good luck on yours though.
Rick, don’t know about the Mirage kit but the Ju-290 is very nice. I’ll be reviewing it in the next weeks update and so foar everything looks very nice. Main parts fit is good, interior and exterior detail is good. Radar is a little heavy but that happens when you try to do it in plastic instead of PE.
Thanks for the info Swanny. Sounds like I may be tempted, but I have no idea where I would keep it when built. Thats one big AC. Course we got Trumpeters 1/48 FW-200 to look forward to. May have to put on an addition to the homestead with all these monsters being kitted.
Swanny, you know you have to do it. You can tell when a kit is just begging for that kind of thing.
Keep us informed on the build. I’d like to put some nav lights on my next Dornier, and maybe power the props too. I was considering led’s for the lights, but they may be too big.
Anyway, can’t wait to see that Ju-290 completed! What’s the wingspan on the model?

awwwwww, just do it! as they say. I think it would be an awesome kit and then you can make an article for fsm too.
Swanny, if you go see your doctor, you can get pills for that kind of thing!!! Seriously, good luck with the project
can I be the first to so NO DONT DO IT… theres already enough models out there to make me feel inferior… aww who"m Im kidding I think It would be another great Swanny Production. Looking forward to seeing it completed regardless of how you build it.
BTW… your post was the first Ive heard of this type of aircraft so I started searching for pics of it to see what it looks like. Suprisingly I couldnt find anything on Airliner.net but I did find this one that I thought was funny… http://www.1000aircraftphotos.com/APS/2005L.jpg
“Alles Kaputt” all broke
Hey, on www.sciplus.com they sell pager vibrator motors that could fit on someody’s thumbnail! You could motorize a 1/72 Bf-109! Then get hearing aid batteries and hide them in drop tanks!!!
Swanny, thanks for getting the kit, I was going to get one, but I do not have the room anymore!!! I am after the Do-217 kit in 48th scale. I have just picked up a second hand He-177 kit, which I was thinking of converting into the nuclear bomber. I just got a book on Hitler’s nuclear weapons, where they mention the 290 as a possible carrie.
No no Swanny… you’re not going over the edge… seeing as how those electric motors fit in there so well, just BECKONS for more electronics!!! (of course, you already know that, don’t you?) [;)]

Must be more careful with my brackets next time!!! [#wstupid]
Chris, those last pictures were great - what a technical juxtaposition … a potential nuclear bomber being serviced from horse drawn carts.
Looks interesting. Just make sure you chock it before you turn on all those motors, or you’ll never see it again[:)]
Don, I learned that the hard way a few years ago. Built the Pro Modeler Me-410 and put slot car motors in each nacelle, a krypton bulb in the fuselage with a reflector array to fiberoptics running to all the exterior lights and dash. Used the shell ejector ports on the belly for a battery plug. So with this set up I had just finished everything off and set it on the table with a couple of feet of wire to the battery pack - hit the button and both props spun up to full power immediately, all loose papers on the table went bye-bye, the 410 started to track across the table for the edge and it was definitly not up to flight speed yet. Fortunately the power cable also acted as a leash. Later I cut the batteries down to a more sane level for normal display.
Glad the pics were some use. You’re welcome
I would have killed to be a fly on the wall when your model decided to go walk about. Im laughing just picturing it in my head… I can only imagine the choice words that escaped your ,mouth
Keep us posted on progress, I’ve always fancied the 290, and keep looking at that big box in my LHS.
