How did you create the masks?

I created them in Inkscape and cut them on my Silhouette Portrait cutter. I scanned the decal sheet
and the instructions (as a placement guide) and scaled them both to the actual size then drew over them in Inkscape. Fortunately, the panel lines in the instruction sheet are placed accurately, which allowed me to create placement templates as shown in the last three pictures. You actually need two alignment templates. One to align the circle, which itself becomes the second alignment template as it covers the area you want to paint.. It’s confusing until you do it a few times

Painting the prop blade stencils was , shall we say, fun:crazy_face:
I had to cut 20 of these masks to get 4 that were usable. For some reason the small rectangle near the spinner was giving the cutter all kinds of issues…

I was thinking how you did it. I’ve been considering getting one of those. I’ve been debating between the cricut and the one you have. I think the silhouette software looks more powerful.

Wow, that looks great. Going on my “didn’t get one for Christmas” list.

Still working on painting the Hayate folks. It’s not shown here but the painting is completely done now and it’s on to the final touches (landing gear, guns, drop tanks, antenna, you k now…). Forcing myself to not rush the last few steps… Tamiya vinyl tape worked very well for masking over those fairings on the trailing edge of the wings.

That masking is fantastic, I just got a cameo 5 for Xmas. Guess I have a lot of learning to do. What decals sheets did you use to feed into the machine? Any particular depth settings for cutting?

Ah, I see its Tamiya sheets.

I wasn’t very good last year. I got a lump of coal for Christmas. I will be looking at getting one of the decal cutters soon though.

Yep, it’s on my list of unfulfilled dreams as well.

Yes, Tamiya Sheet, on a low tac cutting matt. Here are my settings. Note that I am using a 3rd party blade/holder that does not have any markings on it, so I cannot really tell you what depth the blade is set to , but I am sure it is somewhere between 1 and 2. Start with your blade at 1 and increase depth slowly until you cut all the way through the Tamiya sheet or whatever medium you use. You don’t want to cut too deep and mess up your matt. Also, cuts that are too deep will not be as good in quality as the blade is triangular and the deeper it goes the wider it becomes.

Coal is definitely not a good modeling tool!

I ground the coal so that I could use it for soot stains.
