Great @Ranger_Chris61. Welcome to the GB. Please let me know he kit info (Manufacturer and scale) so I can get you added to the roster properly!
1/200 Nitto, any other information that might be needed can be found here: JAL&BA CONCORDE, Nitto 492 (1972)
First of all, it’s great to log in again. For 2025, I started on 2 January with the FineMolds Kamakaze ki-15 for my 2025 group build entry.
Thanks @Ranger_Chris61! Roster updated.
Thank you for joining @Wrinkledm. I have added you to the roster. If you already started, it looks like you are overdue for some progress pictures
Welcome back, Wrinklem. Is that an F5J ship in your avatar?
This came in the mail today from Japan. I wasn’t expecting it for another three weeks. If the F-2A goes well (tracking says Friday), I will probably go with the phantom next. I know next to nothing about Japanese aircraft, WWII or modern, so I am looking forward to learning a bit here.
Greg
Cool paint scheme. That is a sharp looking F-4. Where are you ordering from in Japan btw? Every time I look at HLJ site, they have most stuff listed as out of stock or discontinued…
I won it on an eBay auction. $19.90 with $14 shipping. Seller was juanico-tana. I was pretty impressed with the whole deal. If they would only get the RF-4E in the sea camouflage….
Greg
Great group build topic… I would say after 15 rounds of it lol. I will definitely be in here watching you guys. Have fun and enjoy!
I haven’t typically posted updates, but so far so good. I’m now 6 days into the build (I work typically on 3-5 models simultaneously) and the cockpit tub is finished. The wing tops/bottoms have been joined with the wing spar. I’ll probably pull the tape and start sanding the wing joins tonight and maybe tomorrow get the fuse sealed up. So far I can recommend this kit fits together pretty well. I’ve built a couple of FineScale kits previously that I couldn’t say the same about.
Looks good @Wrinkledm. Like how FM did that cockpit ribbing!
Great @Jake – Welcome to the GB! I’ll get the roster updated.
The F-2A showed up on my porch today. There was a weather delay since it snowed in Dallas. It is interesting in that you can also build the two seat B version, and, unlike most hasegawas, it came with some Japanese domestic weapons. I hope to get started tonight.
Unrelated, but I’ve been gone since 2020, and model master AND future are gone now? I’ll try and figure my way around that.
Hope everyone had a good weekend.
Greg
Hi Greg, I found this video on a product that could be a replacement for ‘future’
As far as paints go, If you want to stick with enamel paints… try MCW Finishing. Their website is a bit of a challenge to use, but they do make a full range of colors in enamel or can custom mix them for you. check out Enamel Military.
If you want to move over to lacquers or acrylics, just post on the general channel and I am sure you will get tons of recommendations on various brands. Personally I generally use Tamiya acrylics and lacquers and Gunze Mr Color lacquers when I want a good color match.
Thank you! My Walmart had the Holloway in stock. And thanks for the tip on mcw. I didn’t know they branched out beyond car and race car paint. Which is excellent by the way. I need some successful builds before I try cars again.
I did shoot some old model master dark gull gray on the cockpit pieces last night. With a little test fitting, it appears that the F-2A will be much better fitting than hasegawa’s phantoms.
Thanks again for the info and suggestions.
Greg
Proof of life. I would be able to seal up the fuselage, but I forgot to bring the cockpit decals to work with me! Intake is going to need filler, but it’s forward progress, so I’m happy.
I read somewhere that I can’t find now, that the F-2A could only carry two ASM-2 missiles operationally, and only carried the four in testing. If that is the case, the extra two missiles are going on a phantom. Hase also gives you a pair of extra rails that can be used for AIM-7F’s (or AAM3’s). I have sparrows floating around, so I might go that route too.
Hope everyone is having a good week.
Greg
Greg, try the lacquer paints out there. Dry in minutes and look great. Mr. hobby, Tamiya, and AK Real Colors are all fanatstic. BTW Mr. hobby has the sea camo colors for your F-2 and F-4
Chris, sign me up. Hasegawa 1/72 Mitsubishi F-1. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one built
