Anyone know of any photo references that show plain Schurzen without rivets on the Jagdpanzer IV /70? I am upgrading the Tamiya kit with Verlinden retrofit skirts. The photo on their package show the skirts WITHOUT the rivets. The original kit shows rivets (albeit the skirts are way too thick).
Any known photo’s documenting plain skirts hanging from the brackets with just u-brackets welded on the back?
Thanks, Stu
Peri, Thanks for checking. It seems that the only reference I can find for “no rivets” is on the Verlinden package. I found some railroad modelers rivets today that appear almost dead on to the scale of the rivet heads on the Tamiya original skirts. I am now working up the courage to cut some rivet heads off and see how hard they are to handle when putting on the skirts. If I can’t find a pic soon in a day or so…I’ll just go down that path.
I attempted to place the rivet heads on the “un-marked” Verlinden Schurzen tonight. Needless to say, this is a futile approach without some sort of template being in place (like the Aber Schurzen has, I believe).
Any suggestions on optimizing the rivet placement and fastening (gluing) process. I am unclear how to handle such a tiny rivet head, while attempting to bond with any type of superglue product, while keeping tweezer tips clear of the glue.
Any suggestions? Everyone sure that there are no photo’s demonstrating Jagdpanzer IV L/70 Schurzen with NO rivet heads exposed (welded skirt brackets on the backside)?
Thanks, Stu
Verlinden released something with no photographic evidence available?? I am shocked as this is not like them…(please read sarcastically)
its a bit like there diamond Zimiret on there Panther
Excellent advice…this makes a lot of sense and is the direction I was heading (as far as marking and positioning). My frustration has been around the adhesive placement. I was trying to apply to the rivet/nut base instead of to the marked position. I had actually tried placing the rivet upside down on my damp thumb, but…this is definitely better.
Off to the basement… Carpe Diem…
For what it’s worth… an Aber Jagdpanzer IV 48/70 Schurzen set arrived today.
The Verlinden set was totally a waste. The Aber is the same price, has rivet positioning marks pre-pressed, much more detail to the brackets, etc., AND a bunch of hull tie-down’s of two different types that can be used on the Jagpdanzer, with enough left over for use on some other hulls.
You can elect to have rivets, or show no rivets (although no one on any forums has been able to produce any photo’s of a non-rivet Schurzen).
If building a Jagdpzr IV, Aber appears to be the way to go on the skirts!
