I’ve been through a lot of sites through google, but I can’t seem to get a clean shot of the cockpit of the Raiden fighter. Can anyone help me ? Does anyone know the right colors?Clear blue green, ? Interior green? I would appreciate it very much.
The Raiden’s cockpit was painted with Mitsubishi Cockpit Green. It is available out of the bottle from White Ensign Models. They have an extensive range of accurate IJN/IJA colors.
I painted this cockpit with Humbrol Bronze Green, which is very close.
Here are five pages of wartime B&W pics, including two cockpit shots. One is wide-angle, and distorted. They are at the bottom of the second page. http://www.ijnafpics.com/jbwj2m1.htm
YEA , if you don´t find the color try with zincromate green , better if it IS ACRYLIC, the color it is not the same asi mistubishi cockpit green but close
Thank You Pix. I’ve been to the sites above, but no color shots.
GABOT - I don’t think it is really necessary to give scale and kit information when I’m asking for color help, thanks for your interest. FYI it is the OLD Tamiya basic Raiden 1/48th kit that I am trying to upgrade a bit to make it a little more than barely interesting, the instructions say “blue/green clear” which I knew was wrong…
Here’s a pic of Mitsubishi Cockpit Green, seen in a Ki 46 “Dinah.”
Both are manufactured by Mitsubishi, and used the same color. Hope this is of more help to you.
Ryan Toews, the Japanese a/c color expert who researched the Blayde 1:1 Zero rebuild, tells me that Model Master IJA exterior topside green is an almost perfect match for Mitsubishi Interior green, and Pix’s photo tends to bear this out. It is now generally agreed that NO Japanese aircraft so far documented was ever painted in Aotake, that clear green-blue color that was used as an anti-corrosive on inside surfaces and can be seen inside wheel wells on many IJN aircraft.
It was Ryan who so kindly sent me a one-inch-square section of a real Zero exterior, cut from a part underneath a rib on the flaps, so it had never been exposed to sunlight. Only a modeler would cherish a little scrap of aluminum worth about a millionth of a cent at the scrapyard. On the other side of this piece is Aotake, which is very clear with a slight turquoise tint.

there’s a new thread on Japaneese colors started today- it contains a link to a newly translated site that might help. It didn’t help me though, I followed the directions and used grey which seems to be just plain wrong
