Iwata VS Grex

I’m shopping for a pistol grip airbrush.

Comparing the Iwata Revolution HP-TR1/2 with the Grex Tritium TS, they look identical. Are they from the same barrel?

I ask because the Grex has a lower price with an extra bottle and comfort grip.

I don’t think Grex is an Iwata. They may look similar but I think they are manufactured at a different plant. Grex is located in California and Iwata is located in Japan.

Has anyone used an Grex before? I saw them at the Nationals this year and much like the Harder Steenbeck airbrushes they are very appealing to the eye and supposedly very nice to use. Any hands on bench reviews from our forum goers?

I have a good friend and excellent modeler (he’s actually a featured FSM contributor) who recently tried a Grex and loves it. He parked his Iwata over a year ago and switched to a Tamiya super fine something or other. When he tried the Grex he was beaming! Swears by it and claims it’s smoother than anything else. I’ve not used one and passed up the chance at the nat’s, knowing I’d never want to pay to reequip myself with all new gear. But he likes his.

I personally think the .02 nozzle is a bit to small for general modeling purposes. If I was going to paint the Mona Lisa in the crack of a flys butt I’d consider one.
