Mussolini had sent over 220,000 personnel to the Russian front by mid 1942. It was practically wiped out in the Russian operations that defeated the German 6th army in Stalingrad from Dec 42 through the end of Jan 43. About 6,000 managed to break out, mostly Alpini, of the encirclement at the Battle of Nikolayevka. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Nikolayevka I built this vignette on that premise. First time using a backdrop photo. I built this for the 1943 group build. Thanks for looking.
Oh cool, nice work!!! Great job on the figures and the snow. I like the backdrop too.
May I ask what company the figures are by though? I never see Italian figures outside of North Africa and a few here and there from the fighting in Italy itself.
Fantastic. Very good looking diorama.
I agree with Gamera, the backdrop looks ideal.
How did you make the snow?
Thanks Gamera.it’s an Italian company. Royal Models. They have a lot of eclectic Italian stuff. Resin figures and accessories. It is a little overpriced. Good quality, not great. The maxim MG is Plusmodel from Czech Rep. The MG was a pain in the butt. Tiny resin bs and PE. Lol
Thanks Griffin for the link. What a terrible loss of life in that Battle.
Thanks!!!
Peter I used Vallejo snow effects, which is a paste like medium, and a light layer of Reallity in Scale dry snow, a granular product. They worked well together. The granular snow was sprinkled over water thined white glue after the Vallejo stuff had dried.
Ahh, thank you very much for that interesting information. Have it now stored in my files.
