I started on this not too long ago and for got to to do the initial sprue shots and beginning assembly pictures, and i’ve now just jumped to the painting. This is a very challenging kit with the kind of camouflage it needs. So hear goes the pictures. I think the hand cut stenciling took me three to four hours just to cut them out.
And there is my finished camo. I’m very pleased with how it turned out. I would not want to do this scheme over again. Now to finish the canopy, which is a three part one.
Yes it is Italian, from a manufacturer called Reggiane. the masks I got from the painting guide in the instructions, I enlarged the 3 view camo drawing to 1/72 scale then just cut out the appropriate spots for each color and than taped it to the plane and air brushed away.
Excellent job on those masks! I love Italian fighter designs, and the camo patterns, too. I think the Italians showed a similar style in designing their aircraft, that some of their automobile manufacturers displayed. I was driven to build up a little stash of 1/72 Italian fighters, from Italeri to Revell to Airfix, to obscure companies like Supermodel.
Regarding the Re-2000, if I remember correctly, it also shares a relationship to the Seversky P-35. I think one of the engineers who designed it had lived and worked in the US in the late 30s, and had worked on the P-35, too. They do share very similar shapes and lines.
You are correct Baron - Mr Seversky & Mr Reggiane had some dealings in the States before Reggiane returned to the old country. The final developments of the P35 and Regianne series resembled each other very closely. Seversky then somehow got folded into Republic Aircraft and ~BAM~ here comes the P47. Much larger of course, bit the family resemblance is there.
Those small Italian fighters - have you looked at Special Hobby or Sword? They have some very nice options for you as well.

Sorry I did not keep the masks, but they came from the painting guide form this model. I just enlarged them and then made copies for each color then cut out the endless holes.
DANGITT!! That looked like an easy way out!! [:P] No problem, I expect I’ll be doing the same thing with mine when I get around to it. Nice to see yours turned out so well using the paper-mask option. Love it!!
