Hoping there are some who can help me with my question.
Working on the Italeri M-1-A2 and the directions show a camouflge scheme of green over sand.
Does anyone know if this is accurate? The tank is shown as being in Central Command in Kuwait.
I like the idea of using this scheme because it is different from the norm, so would appreciate any and all help that I can get.

I have never seen this scheme. All Abrams in Kuwait/Iraq are either Sand or Three-Color Nato camo. US doesn’t use any other schemes. Sorry.
Joe,I think they got it wrong.If you look up on yor sreach engine m1a1 tank,you will see what that are calling green on sand.What this is,is the under coating or origianl base coat of the tank,which is Olive drab.A lot of these tanks went throught some bad sand storms and the sand paint got blasted off in some areas.This would give it an appearance of green on sand.Digger
Sorry guys Italeris not crazy I have the most current Concord book on the Abrams this Scheme was used when the M1A2 was going under troop trials at he NTC I have several photos of the M1A2 in this scheme here is a picture that I scanned in the book , so this scheme was used for a small period of time so if you want to do the M1A2 in its infancy here ya go , hope this helps

The Centcom pattern is a test/demo pattern used when trying to sell the M1A2 to the Kuwaitis. The unit listed, TF 1-10, was the unit stationed at Fort Knox and supported the US Army Armor Center and school.
It was also used during operational tests at the NTC in Fort Irwin, CA as stated above. If you use that pattern, it doesn’t represent an operational unit, just a test vehicle.

for the sand, model master II enamels has specific colors for US armor in the gulf wars
Most mid-eastern countries have patterns like that on their vehicles at one time or another. I don’t know why, but they seem to like green over sand.
I am still working out the kinks on the green paint, I have yet to find one that I realy like, but for sand try MM Sand #33531. With a little wash afterwards it is as close as you can get. The Gulf Armor sand is simply too dark. Although you will find replacement parts painted in this color.
MM makes Russian armor green. I would suggest using that as a good starting point. I also used Tamiya Nato green on a russian vehicle once and it worked out pretty well after weathering.
I use the MM #33531 for my US stuff in ODS and OIF. I just weather the crud out of it and it turns out pretty good. However, I am not trying to argue with you. The Sand color works very well also.

Thanks for the additional information.
Italeri suggests the MM #33531 for the sand and #34092 European Green for the green. I was a bit hesitant about using these as I’ve seen some pretty odd ball choices for colors in Italeri kits. Such as #33531 sand for the base coat (Dunklegelb) on a Panther. That was enough to make me seek input on their recommendations.
Still like the scheme but not sure if I’ll do it since it was not used operationally.
