Italeri Groupbuild Part 2 (March 15th-July 15th)

[:D] well not us tiger, hehe. during the day we’re nothing but professional, no books, magazines, kits, or anyhthing of the sort. when the night comes, we lock up everything, turn on all the alarms, and basically monitor them in case something goes wrong or happens. its quite relaxing at night. i like the graveyard shifts, no one to bother me [;)]

Been more than a time or two that I went past sleeping guards during the early sunrise. they do have these scanner things that they have to go check out around the building and that monitors their movements I guess.

yeah, there are two of us at all times, one is doing rounds, and he has to swipe his card to be scanned that he checked that area. the other is usually watching a dvd on his portable dvd player, surfing the internet, or in my case, working on my kit, hehe. too many things to do for us to sleep. and there is also a camera on the security desk as a preventive measure. we’re all ex-military so we know how to pull “guard” duty. [:D]

As a self-confessed n00b, I just wanted to know what the requirements were to get in on this build…it would definitely be my first. I’ve gotten back into modelling in the past 5-6 months after a 14 year (gasp!) “break”, and am just getting my skills somewhat in place. I’ve realized looking at some of my high school (and before) builds that my skills were never really there in the first place, but what could I expect with on a severely limited budget and spray paint cans for painting…everything. Looks like my ever-growing stash has an Italeri M-109 that I could move up to the top of the list without too much trouble…

Thanks for your input, guys.

Glad to have you Dupes. If you’ll refer to the first post you’ll see the guidelines. It’s recommended to report any problems or share tips and resources within the thread too. Talk is good. Share your methods and whatnot. Pictures are nice too. Welcome and have fun, that is the bottom line. There is no award or competition here.

That easy, huh? Count me in. My first badge! Swanky! I suppose this means I’m going to have to construct some sort of photo booth…Short trip to florida next week for some golf (and hopefully cycling), should get the build started around the 20th or so. Now I’m getting excited. Hehehe.

One question - is there a way for me to flag or bookmark this thread so I can get right to it without rooting around?

Eric,

I see someone has already chosen an M109 for this GB. That’s cool. I have this Revell Panzerhaubitze 2000 kit that I bought a while back off of “theBay”. Someone had already started it, but it’s going to take me at least as much work to “undo” the butchery that’s been done on it as it would it would if I started this kit new. I’d say that 75% of the parts are still on the sprue, the rest need to be reburbished. (I guess that’s probably why I was able to get this kit for a song) Would this Revell kit qualify for the Italeri GB? It’s actually a pretty cool vehicle and I promise not to mess it up too bad .

Larry

Just add it to your favorites just like any other web page. [:)]

If you’re like me and like to be informed of new messages in this particular GB thread, just check the box (in edit mode) in the lower left and you will receive eMails containing a direct link to this discussion.

You can also find this thread pretty easily by clicking on the “My Forums” button, and you’ll see a list of all the threads you’ve participated in. [:)]

The e-mail alerts are both a blessing and a curse. I’ve gotten much better about flagging the GB threads and others I’m interested in, and try to remember to turn off the notify for other threads, otherwise your e-mail may get hammered by hundreds of silly threads about corn… [dinner]

Sure Larry, as long as it was at one time an Italeri mold. I know that their LAV became a Revell mold. On the flip side, they have picked up some Zvezda molds.

Guess I’m being as thick as a whale omlette here, but here goes:

Just exactly what is a group build? Are you guys all building the same model within a specific time frame and then comparing your results? I was a bit confused if this is the case by the list at the top of the thread showing different folks with different kits. Is it just everyone building a different kit by the same manufacturer? I’ve not run across the “group build” concept before.

Every group build is a little different, and the guidelines are usually posted in the very first post of the thread. This particular Group Build came directly out of another Group Build that ended last month, but was so popular that a 2nd GB of the same subject was added. The theme of this GB is Italeri, so any Italeri kit would qualify if you’d like to participate.

Other GBs might involve a theme, such as the Axis Aces group build. Everybody who is participating in that GB is building a model of a specific aircraft flown by a specific Axis ace. I’m building two kits for that GB, a Bf109G-14 flown by Erich Hartmann, and a Bf109G-6 flown by Gunther Rall. Another build is the Spanish Civil War GB, where we’re all building a tank or airplane used by either side in the Spanish Civil War. There are many Group Builds going on right now.

Basically a Group Build is a fun way for a group of guys to get and share their build, history, tips and tricks etc. Look around and if you see any Group Builds you’d like to participate in, just post that you’d like to join and also include what kit you’re going to build. [:D]

For the first Italeri GB I build the 1/35 Italeri Panther Ausf. A. For this one I’m going to build the 1/35 Italer Panzer IV as an F2 used by the Afrika Corps. [:)]

I totally blew the deadline on the first one, but I was building the Italeri BT-5 in T3 Christie clothes via Commander Series. I lost a few months due to a 2 month long 10 hour a day work project. Could you sign me up for this one? The kit is currently gathering dust on my bench. The main hull has only been slightly modified thus far.

Grant

Sure Grant, we all get busy. Glad to have you back.

Bropous, GB’s are fun, but many peter out do to subject and unenthusiastic builders. We were fortunate to have many new faces and lots of chit-chat, which is what keeps the builds active. We had almost 1000 posts! Like Scott said, it involved any armor-related Italeri mold. Some builds are more specific, such as the Tiger I Initial, but of course that drew fewer participants than ours. It was very informative though and people could heads up others on building woes along the way. I highloy recommend doing it, for it will expose you to kits you might discard and encourage you to finish a build.

Thanks for the explanations. Now, does one have to have a digital camera to post the results? I don’t have one, and Santy-Claus is probably gonna be a stingy old you-know-what this year. Funny how gainful employment and model building often go hand-in-hand…

However, I’d probably not be all that good a group-build guy as I tend to do my modeling in “spurts” of creative frenzy. Interesting thing to do, though. Would have been nice to have the Internet as a kid…

I’m not sure how to post pics without a digi-cam. I’m no tech guy. Never say never about jumping in on this. I think many of us build in spurts.

alright i have the majority of the 10/4 built, but there are many a gaps in this kit. so, being that i have some time to try and perfect this kit, and take my time on it, i’m still in on the 10/4 with flak 30, although, i still bought a T-55 today. so you can include that in there as well, that way i’ll finish at least one of them. [swg] the 10/4 looks alright, but like i said i think there was a lack of passion when this kit was manufactured. so being that i have PLENTY of time on my hands until the end of the GB, i’ll work on this T-55 also, but a little more slower and with a little more attention to detail. so if i enter two kits, and only finish one by the deadline, would that count against me? [%-)] i’ll try to post some pics soon, it just looks too bare and simple right now, and i can’t embarass myself with all the flaws showing. [:O]

I wasn’t aware they made a T-55. No harm or foul if you can’t finish either build for that matter. Just can’t get the badge until one is done.

Speaking of a badge, anyone have any ideas? I’d say it needs to be consistant with the other.

yeah i didn’t know either. i’ll take a pic of the box and kit so i can share some pics. maybe its a new kit?
