Hey guys,
Does anyone know how this kit is? I purchased it and it’s on it’s way, just wondering how it is.
Anyone know if it’s the old Monogram/Revell mold or if it’s a different italeri specific mold.

Thanks
Good day,
This is a review done in 2002 on the Italeri 1/48 Northrop F-5A Freedom Fighter Kit number 802. http://www.kitreview.com/reviews/f5areviewjr_1.htm The one on the Squadron site is an F-5E Tiger II Kit number 2615. So it looks like the F-5E is a later issue. If it’s based on another moulding or a new one I haven’t been able to find out. I’d think it will make up into a nice model. Italeri are no slouches these days, prob a bit lacking in some areas, but worth your $. Good Luck with it.

I believe it’s the old ESCI kit, which doesn’t compare favorably with Monogram’s.
But, as any modeling optimist will point out, you can build a decent model from just about any kit, given enough time and effort. However, I’m not a modeling optimist… I’m a modeling laggard. So I’d rather have the Monogram kit…
Fade to Black…
I received the kit and the interior detail is lacking. The rest of the kit doesn’t look bad as far as detail goes, but the office is just pretty bare. The instrument panel is flat with a decal as are the side wall instrumentations.
This whole project started after finding a very unique camo scheme from the VFC-13 Saints on my daily desktop calender (known for their awesome one-off camo patterns). I will post a picture of it later, hopefully someone has other photos of it as well. I’m planning on using the Italeri as a practice session and build up an USAF aggressor, but I would like to also build up a Navy aggressor model.
I found a Monogram 1/48 F-5E on eBay at a very reasonable price so I purchased it. Now I’m looking at picking up the Cutting Edge Navy Update and the black box resin cockpit. Problem is I can’t find the cockpit anywhere.
Can anyone help me out on this one?
Thanks a bunch in advance.
Your Italeri F-5 would be best served detailing it with a cockpit photo etch set for the F-5A or convert to an F-5E, either way your going to be doing a tad bit of scratch building but the end results will be very rewarding. The Monogram F-5E has the molded detailed pit and you may need an AM decal sheet to build to a Navy Aggressor.
Ideally I’d like to use the monogram cockpit in the Italeri kit and find a black box resin set of the cockpit for the monogram. I’ve looked in a quite a few model stores and have been unsuccessful finding it.
Anyone have any ideas?
Try Ebay. I did some looking myself and nothing out there for 1/48 F-5’s in the online stores.
allright bud thanks for your help. [:)]
Send the cockpit parts to me and I’ll scratchbuild you a new one… for a fee of course… [;)] LOL
Trying to find a Black Box pit will be difficult. (By the way, for future reference, I believe that ‘Black Box’ is now known as ‘Avionix’.) But you can try asking around at a few different forums to see if anyone has an old BB F-5E pit…

Good luck guy…
