Hey all,
I’m looking to build a nice model of a Ducati Monster. I see that Italeri has a few models available. Does anyone have experience with these models? How is the build quality on these? I like to stick to Tamiya models…as I have built a Tamiya Ducati 916 that went together quite nicely!

I just got started on the Italeri “Fogarty” Monster. It has the high rise pipes. I purchased this Kit because I own a very similiar monster and I put the high Rise pipes and some other minor customizations I have done. My plan is to modify this kit to look as similiar to mine as possible.
In terms of the kit quality, from what I can tell at this early stage it is of excellent quality in both detail and fit. I dry fitted some of the parts and they align perfect. The decals and stickers are very nice. I have not built any Tamiya Motorcycle kits so I can not do a direct compare. However, I have done Tamiya airplanes and I would say the qulity is comparible if not superior. I hope this helps. As I progress on the kit I will drop some pictures of my progress on the forum.

I’d like to build it similar to the black/red scheme of the Monster S4…think its a pretty nice scheme.
I’ve always loved the Monster, as its similar to the Suzuki Bandit (well, the Bandit is similar to the Monster)…which I am now obsessed with (until I can buy one…hehee)…

I attached a couple pictures of my Ducati from a ride I took this last summer in the high lakes country in Central Oregon. I am going to do some minor modifications to the Italeri kit to look like my bike as a I mentioned. I will post pics of the model as I make progress and see how well I do [:)]. I will add some changes in anticipation of things I will do to my bike, but this is the look I am going for. Keep me posted on your build also.
PS the Suzuki Bandit is a great bike. I had a chance to ride one and they are alot of fun with a comfortable riding postion. Good luck.

I just got my Italeri kit in the mail today…looks impressive! A little low on the parts count, but all the detail is there!
I’ll be painting mine in the red/black Monster S4 scheme, hopefully it turns out well.
Hi ,Have made the Fogerty monster for the production bike group build on here.
Build was very straight forward and easy fit of parts , but not great.
The tamyia bike’s are of by far better quailty , there 1/12 scale bike are the best around , But I also like the bigger scale bike’s (Italeri and Revell Germany) and seeing as I’m a huge Duke fan I have a few 1/9 scalee bike’s as Tamyia do not have many Ducati’s in there line up (5 total)
While Italeri/Revel have a vast amount of duke’s ie Superbike , GP, and road bike’s.
Have just brought thr Italeri YZR500 in 1/6 scale

Thanks for the information on the Tamyia bike kits. The Fogerty monster is my first build for a Motorcycle model so I do not have good basis for comparison. I will check out the Tamyia Duc’s.

No! Dont be sorry at all…there arent many other Monster kits available, and I chose the Fogarty mainly because of its style (the “shovel” underneath the engine, the windscreen, carbon fiber decals etc…)…I just dont like the paint scheme, I prefer the black/red. So it will be an S4 Black/Red Fogarty…[(-D]
So far, I’ve glued the halves of the engine together…and yeah, the fit is not that great…the details on the engine dont really line up. It’s OK…but its no Tamiya!
Shogun–I highly recommend building a Tamiya bike next time…its a real pleasure!
Based on your experience I will go after a Tamyia kit. You guys mentioned they do not have a Duc in the line-up? Have you found any other Duc kits by other manufacturers? I would like to build another one some time. And don’t forget to post pictures of your build as you progress, I will do the same. I am just focused on finishing up an airplane model at the moment so it will be another week probely before I can post an update.

Tamiya DOES have a 1/12 Duc 916 model, which I have built…AMAZING quality 
I guess thw basic frame of the 916 is pretty similar to the Monster…but you would need some kind of 1/12 Monster seat/tank/headlight.
I think Tamiya also has the new Duc Descmodetti (I know I didnt spell that right at all!)…which looks nice too.

the Italeri kit doe’s have it’s problem but is still a good kit to do / add extra detail to etc ,etc .
Am doing 3 moto gp Dukes at the moment will be posting updates soon over there .
The guy’s are very good and will other any help or advice if needed or wanted or after any bit that is lost broken just ask someone will most likely help.

Shayne, thanks for the links. Browsing through some of the pictures and reading the post has given me some ideas. However, I can tell I have alot to learn being new to the hobby, there are some amazing looking builds. Thanks again.

Tamiya do a wonderful Ducati 916 and the kit is well detailed and very easy to build with amazing results. Tamiya also do the older Hike Haliwood Replica from the mid 1980’s and it is also a very nice kit. Both are available from HobbyLinkJapan for a reasonable price
I looked at the Ducati Monster kit but preferred the additional detail that Tamiya offer, but Tamiya unfortunately don’t do a Monster.

Wanted to share my progress on my first attempt at a motorcycle model. This is only my second model I have ever built. My first was an airplane model. It is not nearly as nice as the ones I have seen on this forum, but I am happy with the results given my rookie status. I have learned alot from some mistakes.
