I hate posting this here because this section of the forum is a barren waste land, but I’m a conformist.
Any experience with this paint? What do you use for thinner? I don’t use brand specific thinners. If i cant thin it with something I can get at Walmart I don’t want it.
Most acrlics will thin with distilled water, which I am willing to bet you can find at Walmart. Another common generic thinner that Walmart carries for acrylics is denatured alcolhol (not isoprpyl). But I have no experience with this brand of paint. I was tempted to get some when they had their introductory offer, but I did not feel like adding another brand of paints and more possible interaction issues to my already large paint collection. Not to mention that none of the LHS here carry it and I dont care for internet ordring stuff I need ASAP when paint runs out. A 20 minute trip to the LHS beats a 2-7 day wait on delivery will win every time.
Yup, I’ve got a full range of household thinners already. I buy cases of distiller water for thinner, the Kuerig, my steamers (cloths and food) because our tap water is so horribly hard that it scaled everything. Also have denatured alcohol, windshield washer fluid, etc. just was curious if the stuff is like Tamiya which will thin with other things, but it much prefers X-20A. Since I only have access to Hobby Lobby and MM Acryl I thought I’d ask about this stuff in case I need a color they have when I order. I’m going to try and put together a comprehensive list of necessary colors to make a big purchase of paints soon. I’m kinda running on a rag tag assortment that’s a few years old and would like to just start over with the more essential stuff.
Well I did like that they offered several shades of Olive Drab, something that always appeals to me. Seeing how the US military has had numerous different colors all named Olive Drab over the past 90 years. Unfortuantely I have never seen the Italeri colors in person to see if they fill my needs. With the demise of the Polly Scale and Gunze Acrylic lines, which both had multiple different shades of OD, here in the US I am looking for some replacements. Model Master is supposedly bringing out a new OD shade, but I have yet to see it aside from online on their site.
Italeri paint thins with the same formulas you use for Vallejo paints, including Vallejo thinner, which is what I use (They are rebottled Vallejo paints, after all)
so, any tricks you use for Vallejo, use the same ones on your Italeri,Italeri is a cheaper way to get the Vallejo clears, though
Thanks, Rex. I had no idea they WERE Vallejo!
Stick, I have always been baffled about how every bottle of OD looks different. As for Aqueous, I just learned that you can actually order it from Asia. I was thinking it was banned. It really only makes sense if you’re going to order a lot, or some kits or something though. I’ll probably end up ordering the HB F-14 and stocking up in some of the common FS colors for jets and stuff.
here is another option, Prof

if you order enough, the postage evens out okay
hope this helped
Wow!! Thanks. I’m bookmarking that. The problem I have with Lucky Model was they didn’t have pics for the colors in the 300 range. This site appears to have a picture. I found a color chart for Aqueous online, but some of the color chips just don’t look right to me. Like I just used some 308 and it looks nothing like what the chart shows. But the FS numbers all appear to be correct.
Not Sahara Desert sand dunes, but more of a Mojave Desert with scattered sage brush here… there is still some scattered life.
I have used two MM OD’s; one “regular” whatever they consider that and “faded OD” but both were enamels. I too would like to have a couple variations on that color. Acrylic or enamel would suit me.
