Here’s the venerable Italeri He 111H-6, raised panel lines, over-size rivets and all. This one languished semi-finished for several years. Once Hasegawa released their excellent 111 this one became the ugly step-sister, but I decided to drag it out and finish it anyway. I did upgrade the cockpit with the CMK resin cockpit (which is a nice little add on) and added some True Detail wheels but other than that it’s mostly OOB. With a lttle more TLC it could be coaxed into a decent model but since I’ve got a few Hasegawa’s in the stash I didn’t bother. The decals were from several sources, most pretty old so there was a little silvering when they went down.
The markings and paint scheme are semi-historical based on several pictures of different 111’s supporting the Stalingrad airlift, in this case 5./KG 55.
Having built a couple of multi-engined 1/72 Italeri kits recently I can tell you did a superb job with what you had Mike. The paint job looks awesome. Well Done! [tup][tup]
Very nice—the spade is one of my fav planes…I have never seen the cargo pod in refs–very cool. Also, the red-worm on the side is unusual; I thought those were only on Battle of Britain a/c…very nicely done…
Thanks, Manny. You’re probably right about the 5 Staffel marking (red worm), I took a break from being real anal retentive on my markings on this one. I had a decal sheet with those on there and since I was doing kind of a composite/what-if aircraft, I figured “what the hey”.
