I’m going to build Hasegawa’s 1/48 scale Isuzu TX 40 fuel truck. The box cover displays the army version of this vehicle but the kit also offers a choice of it being finished in the colors of the Imperial Japanese Navy. I prefer to finish it in the navy colours this time and to set it in a diorama but would like to get some help first with some historical facts. I know that some of the IJN’s air fleet was stationed on land, and wherever they were then most probably there would have been examples of the TX40 fuel truck as accompaniment. But one thing I’d like to know is did these trucks also work on the aircraft carriers, driving down the flightdeck to serve from one aircraft to the next - it seems unlikely, but did they?
The instruction sheet in this kit offers only one color to paint the uniform of the two figures included which is a kind of khaki. But I’m wondering whether navy personel would have worn a different color to their army brethren and would be something more closely resembling the color of their vehicle. According to the instruction sheet even the jerry cans included in the kit are to be painted blue if they belong to the navy. Amidst all this blue khaki would seem out of place. But they might have worn khaki after all - but can anyone inform me on this please.
After I’ve done the vehicle I’ll then want to choose an IJN aircraft to go with it in a diorama. Can you name me some examples of IJN aircraft that operated from land?
