Israeli M-60-A1 Blazer

Here’s the Esci Blazer kit.

Joe

Nice work! I’ve got the Italeri M 60 Blazer. and i’m feeling inspired. What did you use to tone/fade the base coat? It turned out very well.

Great job! Love that Israeli Armor!

FYI, if you want to know, IDF calls these bad-boys Magach or Mag’ach. Blazer is the name for the reactive armor.

Excellent job, Panther 44!
I built this one too and enjoyed it.

Regards, Dan

Thanks for the comments.
Scorn,
Thanks for the info on the names. I just go off what the box says, so obviously you can’t count on those designations. Do like the bad boys name. They definitely look like bad boys.
Matt,
I can give you a rough idea of the process. I have a harder time trying to weather desert camo and have tried several times to get a decent look, but nothing I’m really happy with to this point.
So, basically what I’m saying is, I really don’t remember exactly how I did the paint/camo[:I][:D].
I used the Model Master Desert Sand color for the base. May have followed that with a color that would be close to a sand tone and thin it and mist it over the tank, try to build up the color on those areas where the dust would accumulate.
Did also use pastel chalk (again trying to get something close to a sand color) and built it up on the low wear areas, but think I did give the whole tank some coverage with the chalk.
Used an old toothbrush (with soft bristles) and scrubbed those parts where the crew might have caused the sand and dust to be worn away.
Also used a short (cut off) stiff bristle brush and dipped it in the Desert Sand, removing most off the paint on a towel and then dabbed it lightly on areas of the tank where the crew might walk.
Hope this helps to answer your questions, if not, please feel free to ask any more that you might have.
Sorry, if it wasn’t much help, but when I try and weather something, it’s pretty much a haphazard approach[8D]. Just try something and keep going until I’m relatively happy with the results.

Thanks joe, I love the contrast. Thinning the mist coat. Maybe this is what I’m not doing right. Last mist coat I tried turned out “speckled”. I have a M-51 built that I’d like that effect on. I see using it for a practice run. Thanks again!

Good build, Panther!

Nice looking Blazer. Good work.

Hey Matt,
I really thin the paint. Usually 30-70 or 40-60, that’s paint to thinner. I turn the nozzle down to get minimum spray. Be patient and go slow. I’ll make maybe two or three light passes on a given area and move on to another part of the tank. Sometimes it may take 6 to 10 passes before you see any build up. Allow maybe 15 to 30 minutes after spraying to see exactly what effect you have.
I too have ended up with the speckled look, and it is usually because my paint isn’t thinned enough or sometimes a dirty airbrush.
Regards,
Joe

Thanks Joe. I’ll try that on my M-51 I already built. Also I won’t do this in the afternoon sun.I paint in a carport and its amazing the difference between there and inside. Thanks again for the tips.[tup] I’ll post picures when I try it good or bad.

Hey Matt,
Wishing you the best of luck and hope to see your pictures real soon.
