I did up a 1/48 Revell Strike Eagle as an F-15i and for that I used
XF-21 Sky, XF-52 Flat Earth, and XF-57 Buff. For the belly I think I used the standard medium gray which I’m happy with but in honesty it’s probably a little too dark.
here’s a pic of how that came out, not the best photo but you get the idea. What aircraft are you modeling?
Hot-Pb
This is what Yoav EFrati had to say in Feb 2009 Scale Aircraft Modelling. He seems to have missed out Xtracolor X105 Sand whivh he also used. Not all have Tamiya matches. Agama are the only manufacturer I can think of that have acrylic Israeli colours in their range.
The correct IAF F-16 colours
It should be noted that paints used on Israeli Air Force aircraft are of local manufacture. The local manufacturer, Tambor Paints, uses German RAL standards for mixing its paints. IAF aircraft arriving from the US in Federal Standard 595 colours are repainted in Tambor shades of paint very similar to the original colours, yet are always of a slightly different colour than US ES.595c specification. In order to attain the best colour match I needed to obtain paints from several manufacturers. For the primary fuselage colours I’ve found the paints that best match are:
Testors Model Master 1728 for the ES.36375 Light Ghost Gray lower fuselage; and Testors Model Master 2049 RAF Sky Type S (ANA61O) for the green; and Humbrol 119 brown (do not use Humbrol 118, it does not have the reddish hue used on locally manufactured brown used by the IAF).
Xtracolor XI05 Sand
Additional paints I recommend for other areas of the aircraft include Tamiya X-2 gloss white for the intake, wheel wells and landing gear; Testors Model Master 1723 ES.36118 for the IANTIRN pod; Xtracolor XS06 Gunmetal for the turkey feathers; Humbrol 67 Panzer Grey for the cockpit, upper fuselage refueling door and ring forward of the turkey feathers; Humbrol 140 (ES.36231) radome; Humbrol 126 (ES.36270) Sidewinder rails; and Humbrol 33 Black canopy frame and tyres.
