I want to try it, but it seems there are so many problems one can run into along the way.
Is there a good primer on common issues and how to avoid them? Or solve them.

There are lots of good YouTube videos. Start there.
I wouldn’t spend a ton of money on books, there are a ton of airbrushing videos and articles online, also check out the Kalmbach library right here for advice and articles.
Also check your local hobby stores and local contests - many have Airbrush 101 Demos.
If you know someone who uses an airbrush, that would be the fastest way to learn. I was taught by a friend in high school and have since taught a couple of my friends. Like most things, hands-on is the best way to learn if you can. But as others have said, watching how-to videos can be a good substitute.
I’m new with airbrushing myself and besides all the good YouTube videos I have found Google AI to be Avery good tool that immediately give you the best descriptions and information on every thinkable issue.
