I’ve looked, but not found anything. Has there ever been a kit produced of any ship in this class? I served aboard the IWO back in the mid to late 80’s. I’d love to have a kit? Thanks.

Yes, there was an old kit by Aurora, way back in the day. 1/600 scale I think.
There was also a resin kit in 1/700 by Skywave/Pit Road’s resin division,Waveline, I think was the name of the range, go to www.quuxuum.org/…/shiprevs.html click Waveline box, then click Iwo Jima or Okinawa boxes

No, the LPH were a purpose designed Class from the early 1960s for carrying a Marine unit and helicopters to insert and support them ashore during amphibious operations. They saw plenty of action and use through the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and into the 1990s when they were finally phased out. They replaced converted WWII carriers that had been used for that purpose since the 1950s. The Wasp class are a newer iteration of that design concept after the Tarawa Class which added the stern well deck to the concept in the 1970s. There may be a new Iwo Jima of the Wasp class.

the OP has LPH-2 in the title, so I didn’t look for an LHD
the ships of the LPH Iwo class are the ships with the rounded flight deck on the front edge, they were smaller than the Essex class LPHs, but larger than the LPH Thetis Bay (former Escort Carrier)
the Iwo class ships are the ones that participated in the space capsule recoverys, any time it wasn’t an Essex class at the pickup point, it was an Iwo class
can verify that there is a LHD-7…started work on mine actually. Some pics of the kit and some work on one of the antenna stacks on Iwo Jima:

This is the IronShipWrights 1/350 USS Guam that I’m building into the USS Okinawa. I was board her during the Iran hostage crap. The first photos are the fullhull of the factory. The other photos are of my waterline model.
