Is there a 1:48 Chuck Yeager 1947 kit available?

When I get to build the X-1 that Yeager flew I would like to have him standing next to it for scale.

Does anyone know if there is a Chuck Yeager 1/48 kit available similar to R. I. Bong type kits that are available?

Failing that… a kit that would be acceptable given the suit Yeager was wearing.

Also… if anyone has hint on the colors… that would be really great too.

Eduard has (or had) a 1/48 kit of the X-1 with decals for Yeagers bird. I’m not aware of any pilot figure specifically of Yeager, but shouldn’t be too hard to bash from other figures.

Regards, Rick

Hoek. I think I’ve seen photos of Yeager in an Olive colored suit. The Chute was the same color and the straps are typical light tan. Hope that helps a little!

Hoek,

Watch out for photos, some of them could be after the fact publicity shots. Rad Max’s description is spot on to use the standard of the day. For my 1/72 I used Tamiya Orange and Model Master Red Acryll at about an 80/20 mix.

Woooooot… the kit actually came today after 3.5 months by surface mail so I’m now hopeful the last 2 orders are within a week of arriving too.

The Eduard 1/48 basic X-1 kit looks very neat and a relative simple build. Not many parts, only a single small canopy and only a handful of colors. (not to mention no propeller blades).

This order that arrived had the 2 Arado 234C bombers I scored for $5.99 each. These retail in Australia for about $60 each so I coudn’t pass them up. Very surprised by the quality of the kit and will prob just sell 1 on EBay and keep the other in the stash.

I found there is an official Chuck Yeager site on the Internet so I might try my luck and see if they can shed some light on what he was wearing for the flight.

Hoek, you may get a response from ol’ Chuck himself! He still flies regularly and even flies a P-51D restored by Jack Roush (who is a racing team owner here in the states) at the Oshkosh Airshow. It’s pretty nifty! I recommend that you pick up a copy of Yeager’s autobiography, entitled YEAGER. Pretty good book, IMHO. Good luck, and please post LOTS of pics!
P.S. What do you mean no prop blades in the X-1??
