How long does a 1/48 figure painted in acrylic take for your batch to strip?
Or is it because my container is shut tight?
my pilot fig has been sitting in the toxic pool for a bit less that two hours now.[:(!]
and the paint’s still not coming off!
CSC doesn’t strip everything. I have left a part painted with Tamiya spray paint in CSC for a day and nothing happened. It just depends on the kind of paint. If it doesn’t work, try another stripper, like brake fluid or bleach.
If CSC Does not strip it, Easy-Off will. I had a paint pieceof a car and screwed up with the dial faces. Saturday night I sprayed Easy-Off then put it into a zip lock bag and then after two hours took it out and wash it off, no more paint on it. It was like brand new. I took it outside and gave it a spray then quickly put it into a bag. No time for a smell.
Has the Super Clean been used before? I have tried to strip things in a container that has already been used to strip other pieces and found that the Super Clean lost some of it’s “punch” the second go-round. There are also some paints used by diecast and plastic manufacturers that are actually inks and not paints. Plain old denatured alcohol works on them when Super Clean has not.
no, it was the first pour of the gallon batch. I found that my crylic doesn’t peel off on itself, but you have to wipe it off.

Easy Off is an oven cleaner that can be used to remove paint. Stripping paint and stipping chrome are pretty much the same thing. Here are my comments from a paint stripping topic.
True engine degreasers contain Petroluem Distillates(Paint Thinner) which will melt right through plastic. Cleaner/Degreasers like Simple Green and Castrol Super Clean won’t melt plastic no matter how long it sits. Castrol Super Clean use to be available in an aerosol can, but was recalled a couple of years ago and never reissued. I haven’t been able to find any since. I believe that Castrol Super Wheel Cleaner is just a diluted from of CSC, but I’m not positive.
Brake cleaner is mildly effective, but highly toxic. Same with Easy Off.
Wesleys White Wall Cleaner can be found at all NAPA Auto Stores and is another great paint stripper.
My other recommendations for stripping paint are items like Pollyscale ELO and Hangar’s Strip-A-Kit. These are similar to paint thinner and are effective in stripping paint. They will not harm plastic.

Windex can also be used to strip paint, but ammonia fumes are more than I can handle. It doesn’t work that well either.
Simple Green is great for stripping chrome and acrylic paint. It doesn’t take long or much effort, and its non toxic and biodegradable and can be poured down the drain when done.
Chameleon is another non-toxic and biodegradable paint stripper.

No matter what you use, make sure to use solvent resistant gloves, only do it outside or in a barn, and don’t inhale the fumes. I recommend a respirator for the more toxic and votalie ones. You can use a 3M ScothBrite plastic pad to scrub stubborn paint off. They are green and come in a 2-pack. They will not damage plastic no matter how hard you scrub.
I have found that CSC dosen’t want to strip acryllics. I heard a tip that 90% rubbing alcohol will do the trick, and let me tell you something-it works. Another option is that as soon as you notice the screw up, throw it in a pool of Windex and the offending paint should be gone within a half hour.
I asked the question on stripping paint and chrome to the Question and Answer part of FSM mag. and Paul Boyer responding back saying to use clorox bleach and I did with teriffic results.
Theres two different types of CSC…One is the one we love in the big gallon container…The weaker one is in the smaller container with a spray pump handle…Its for tires, wheels, etc…The CSC we love only comes in the bigger container and says " Degreaser". Has warning lable about removing paint …There is a “Purple Something” on the market now too… I’ve never used it, but the guys at the Equipment Rental place here in town swear its as Good, and a few buck’s cheaper too!.. I Guess sence I can’t buy it at K-Mart! I’ll try there when I run out!..Its 100 miles round trip to Wall Mart in Lancaster, Ca. from here!
K-Mart in their stupidity, has chosen to discontinue it from their stock here in Tehachapi, Ca…I use it to clean my brushes and airbrush parts, plus run a cap or two full after changing color’s on my Badger 360… I just pour a cap full through, rewipe the little cup… Same with my Badger 100 LG…and its clean…I’m Using acrylic’s and it cleans like charm for me…When I do take my a/b’s apart to deep clean I soak the parts in CSC for a few minutes while I’m cleaning my regular hand held brushes in it too, only in a small separate container, but do use the hand held brush while cleaning my a/b’s… I can get in the little crevises and the brush’s getting cleaner too…Wash them off good with warm soapy water, rince, air dry, or wipe them with a lint free cloth and put them back together while adding few drops of Badger Needle juice to my a/b’s needle and trigger assemblies to lube & their easier to use next time! And no Rusting of my a/b’s part’s or needle’s…Ask Mike V about needle juice! Its great!..
There is a big difference in the two CSC’s as far as strength goes…Don’t buy the small one with the spray handle, its worthless for our cleaning and paint removal…But super for cleaning your wheels of the brake Dust & Grime. on your 1:1 vehicles…Be carfefull, wear safty glasses for doing both and rubber gloves too, so your hands don’t dry out and crack at the corners of the finger nails…
EZ AIR has a hand care product called Invisible Care…For Air Brush painters… Since I’m single and these Apt’s don’t have dishwashers, I’m doing all my dishes and pots & Pans now and do get dish pan hands…I ve been using this for a little over a year and my hands are softer and not cracking at the corners of the nails…That hurts like a you know what I want to say! You mean clorox bleach used for toilet bowls?
I have used CSC for years now, and it works great. I soak resin large scale figures in it to get rid of the parting oils and silicone.
Anyway I leave kits in it for a month or so. Never had a problem with it damaging styrene parts or resin parts. There is another lighter purple cleaner, Purple Stuff or somehting, and it just isnt nearly as good as CSC Degreaser in the gallon jug. I used to wash my uniforms with this stuff, mixed that and Coca Cola to get the grease, oil and general airplane gunk out ( I work dirty!)

It is no longer called Castrol Super Clean, it is just Super Clean and Walmart sells it.
It contains the same ingrediant as Easy-Off which is sodium hydroxide (lye).
The parts have to be submerged in it to work well as it does not remove paint from the fumes as Easy-Off does.
I wear a rubber glove and use an old toothbrush on the part to scrub the paint off.
It is called Purple Power and it does not clean as well as Super Clean as it does not have sodium hydroxide (lye) in it.
I have them both.
