Is It "Against The Rules" To Build The Ultimate ground Attack P-38?

I’ve been on a P-38 building binge, most have been the Academy kit that is 4 in 1. I was thinking of loading it up with bombs, Christmas tree rockets, and the bazooka tube rocket launchers. I really don’t think P-38’s ever carried all that ordinance at one time but it sure would look bad a–. What do you guys think?

The P-38 actually could carry quite a heavy bomb load. That’s why the “droop snoot” mod came about. They stuck a Norden bomb sight in the glass “Snoot” and it would serve as the lead aircraft in a formation of standard P-38s (and/or other fighters) for a level bomb run.

Modeling is and should be what YOU want to make it. Build what pleases you and if someone else doesn’t like it, that is THEIR problem.

Actually there are no rules for building models. Each is you individual expression limited only by artistic merit, skill and your imagination. Go for it!

Entering contests is another beast all together, judges look for accuracy with a realistic finish. Yet going overboard in ordinance may take away points most contests are your entry against what ever else is entered in the category. Flaws in the basic build will sink or swim most of the time.

Thanks for these responses. I’m going to do it. Don’t really know why I bothered to even ask, maybe out of respect for the realism side of modeling. Now I’ll have to buy another kit so I can build the Droopsnoot. That was next until I got this idea.

Someone on this board has a formal “artistic license” worked up, granting him license to build as he sees fit.

you don’t need “permission” to build anything

but, as a kind of “in the same spirit” comment, I’ll say this

I have a Phantom collection,mostly Navy and Marines,I only want a small number of Air Force planes, and the Navy planes are for a set goal in a larger collection

so,I hang Air Force loadouts on the Marines jets, just because I want to show the loads, but don’t want to “mess up” the Navy planes, or fill the shelves with “off topic” camo’d Air Force

my “audience of one” doesn’t know or care, and I like them,that is all that truly matters

besides, for every “over loaded” P-38 you build, there’s ten other planes that you plan to do “according to spec”, if you are like the rest of us in the least

There’s a dude here named Eddie Miller (haven’t seen any new work from him in a while) who used to the most outrageous, evil things to models…the rivet counters (I’m sure) must have blown a gasket every time he posted pics of his latest carnage. He came up with some really amazing concepts…his models were very entertaining, and I admired his inventiveness and imagination.

Long story short…if it trips your trigger, go for it! Who cares if it’s “historically inaccurate”? Have fun. Make something you’re proud of. All you’ll get here is encouragement, and you very well might make a convert of one of those rivet counters.

Thanks for all the responses, I’m proceeding with the plan. I might load up a P-47 in the same vein some where down the road. I’m painting it in the bare metal silver scheme. What color should the rockets and tube rocket launchers be?
