Interior for T-72

Does anyone know of an interior set for the T-72? I have a Tamiya T-72 and am going to convert it to a T-90, but there are definitely no interior sets for that, so I’ll settle for a T-72 interior. I have lookde and can’t seem to find any for the T-72 either. Thanks for any help. (If there isn’t one I’m going to scratch a drivers compartment and leave it at that.)

You could probably get one of the T-55 or T-62 interiors and use that as a base and add a few items to make it look more like a T-72. They are close enough for what will be seen through the hatches. Most people won’t know the difference anyways. Verlinden and CMK both make T-55 interior sets, Verlinden does a T-62 set as well.

Good luck.

OK Thanks. The Tamiya kit has very few openings anyway, so I’ll just scratchbuild a drivers compartment. Thanks for the help.

The interior is so different from the T 55 or T 62 that it wouldnt work. The breach block is huge and the autoloader and ammo carrosel occupy a large portion of space. I would also love to find a AM kit of the interior. I am making an Iraqi T 72m. However, Verlinden does sell the T 62 interior.

I found that Frieulemodel (the company that makes metal track) also makes a nice Iraqi tank crew with someone in each hatch.

Still think you could use the T-55 or T-62 interiors as a base to start with and modify them into a T-72 or T-90 interior. It will be close enough from what can be seen through the hatches.

Yeah I agree with HeavyArty. No one knows the difference anyway and it can be made to look close enough. However, That interior costs 40$ and I’m already spending 100$+ on the conversion so it’s a wee bit out of my budget. And besides it’ll be good to practice my scratchbuilding skills…

Have to agree with HeavyArty on this one. There is no reason you couldn’t use one of those for a base. At least you would have a good start.

It also depends on how much interior you are going to show of course. If you are only going to have the hatches open for the driver, you could go with a very rudimentary detail set up. The turret would be a different matter though as the auto-loader system is pretty conspicuous IMO. Having a figure there would help out a lot though.

A base would be a good idea, but as far as money goes, I’d probably be sharpening up my hobby knife and preparing for some scratch building practice.

For scratch-building, which I am always an advocate of, Shep Paine did up a scratch interior on a T-62 in one of his early books, Modelling Military Vehicles I think. It had a T-62 disabled and half into a building with an Israeli Dragon Wagon maneauvering around it. He built it way before there were any AM interior sets out there. I used his pics and instructions to put an interior into my T-62. Pretty easy to do, especially since not much can actually be seen through the hatches.

I think I’m only gonna have the drivers hatch open, si I’ll just concentrate on gettin a nice scratched driver’s compartment. It’ll give the illusion of a nice interior.

If you find one of the Skif T-55 kits (issued circa 2001), it was panned by the critiques and in clearance bins by early 2002. It included a rudimentary interior and through the hatches, would give you just enough detail to look like something was there.

Just a thought if you can find one real cheap.

Czeck master makes a T 55 interior that is cheaper than verlindens T 62s interior.

He doesn’t show how to do the interior in that particular book though Heavy. That book has the instructions on how to build the Isherman. The Military Dioramas book by Shep just details the building of the dio, no T-62.

Here is a link on how to do a simple T-62 interior though if you are interested Tankmaster 7

Scorn,
I was thinking of the wrong book, writer/builder, and dio. It was Terry Ashley’s Road to Beruit dio in, I think, an issue if Tamiya Model Mag that featured the pics that you have linked there. The dio is of a Merkava passing along a knocked out T-62 along a wall. The pics are what I used to do the interior of mine. Good find.

Here are some more pics of the new CMK T-55 interior, from PMMS as well, that may help.

Wow, thanks for the wealth of info guys. I appreciate it.

Thanks for the info there Heavy. I really wanted to be able to see that article in-depth if possible. Now if I can only find it…

TMMI Issue No. 8, Winter 1986-87. Not really much more to it than the pics linked above, same 5 pics in the article. It is only 4 pages long. It has some nice pics of the overall dio though.
