Interior colors for Russian tanks

What colors were used inside Russian tanks? Were they basically the same as the Brits and Americans or something totally different?

I’m building the Drsgon kit of the “Red Army” Sherman w/75mm gun.

Thanks for all responses.

AFV Modeler, issue #19, has a large article on Trumpeters 1/16 T34 kits. There are numerous photos of the kits in various stages of assembly. Looking at near finished interior photos I would say that the interior is mostly painted white. Floor ammo bins are black. Seats look to be black too.

I think it was a matter of whatever was available…In Halberstadt’s book “Inside the Great Tanks”, the T-34/85 has red leather seats and the interior is painted a yellow mustard color, very similar to German Armor Yellow. There are photos online of T-34s that show white, and some gray as well…I’ve also seen the floor armor boxes in overall dark gray or gunmetal color, which is the color I chose for mine.

I find it hard to believe that the Russians were overly concerned about the interior colors of their vehicles, especially what I’d consider to be ‘trim’ colors…

I’d snoop around the 'net and see what you can find for interior shots…here’s a good place to start:

Hope that helps!

The interior color of the M4A2 should be the same color as other Shermans, which I believe is white(?). I don’t think the Soviets would have taken the time to change the interior color before sending them into combat.

As far as the Russian armor go’s, a sloppy coating of white or off-white was what was usually used. But as others have stated there was a point in time when the tank was lucky to even get its interior painted. In many cases due to one factory moving and another factory having to stop one manufacturing process and start building tanks, they used what ever they had on hand. In these cases the brighter and lighter the inside the better, to spot oil and hydraulic leaks and to help reflect what little light they had inside.

Best of luck.

All instances that I’ve seen, from the massive T-35 to the T-34 show white as the standard interior colour.
