hello,does anyone know the colors for interiors ?like german armour was the interior the same color in all armour or were there afew different colors depending on year or model of armour.the same for usa armour.thanks Tom Martell
Best bet is to check references, but most German armor was red oxide up to the hull bottom interior, then buff above that,except for hatch interiors which were exterior color. US vehicles were mostly white interiors, with, again, hatch cover interiors being OD.
Unless I’m mistaken, most AFV’s interiors, for most nations, was and still is white - in order to reduce claustrophobia, I suppose -.
However, inside of hatches were usualy the same colour (or the main colour) as the outside (to reduce risks of being seen).
Open toped vehicles such as SdKfz 251, Marder III,… had same colour everywhere although camouflage if any was only found on the outside surfaces.

Sort of an aside, Panzer 38’s had white interiors, but they were originally Slovak tanks before the German occupation. That’s the only German tank I’ve seen interior color photos of. I’m also interested in this because I’m starting a PzKpfw IV, Ausf. H (Mark IV special).
FSM has had several articles on the subject, and I can also recommend Panzer Modelling Masterclass by Tony Greenland.
Some of my sources showed pre/early war American armour with white hatch interiors, these were painted exterior color when the war started .
The germans at the beginning of the war had some complex colors for the interiors…You can see early tigers with a gray green color at the bottom and then a light ivory color on the sides and turret …they then stopped using the gray green color and you can see red primer used in its place …but by the end of the war the interior seems to have been left all in red oxide primer or a green primer was also seen.I hope this clear it up a bit …NOT!! lol

For the most part, WW2 german tanks had a buff color interior. Testors has that particular color called Panzer interior. US primarily used white. Modern day US is primarily white but Bradleys and M113’s use a pale green.
Xtracolor (Hannants) enamels line also has a special
color for WWII german AFV interior. Its X818 German
WW II Tank Interior Buff. From what I know about the line,
this should be a very good match to the actual color.
The only problem: these paints are hard to get in the US
(see my previous posts on Xtracolor stuff).
