Surfing around this evening I discovered that a movie about Captain Chesley Sullenberger is in the works. Clint Eastwood is the director and Tom Hanks is the star. Google “Sully movie” for a few more details.
I’m looking forward to this one. Captain Sullenberger is one of my heroes.
Sounds like a great movie in the making. Clint has been doing some great films over the past two decades, and so has Hanks. Sounds like a fine pairing of talent in a great true story.
Ugh, crushing disappointment here. I really don’t think I can stand another movie where I have to endure the stunning mediocrity of pasty Tom Hanks’ “acting” onscreen…
Well, I guess if there’s a bright side, it’s that they could have cast Nicholas Cage or Keannu Reeves…[8-)]
IF THE PILOT OF FLIGHT 1549 WERE AN NYPD EMPLOYEE?
Everyone is calling that pilot a hero. Just imagine if he happened to work for the NYPD. How would this job treat a hero like that???
It turns out the two engines fell off during the accident -Failure to Safeguard Department Property - 5 Days
The pilot yelled at that fat lady who refused to get off the plane - Discourtesy- 4 hours
During the rescue operation, the pilots hat fell off
Uniform Violation- 4 hours
The pilot was told to land at Teterboro, but he landed in the Hudson
Failure to Comply with a Lawful Order- 30 days and year probation
The pilot was due in Charlotte, but did not show up
AWOL, more than 5 days -SUSPENSION
And of course, the plane is now 'parked ’ in lower Manhattan
Now that’s serious
A real bright side is that, although these two are on opposite sides of the political spectrum, they came togehter to make a movie that will be of interest to many, many people.
The actual plane is sitting in the air museum here at the Charlotte Douglas Airport. Quite a sight to see how intact it is after the dunking in the river a few years ago. Very informative displays all around the plane describing each area of impact, and how the crew handled the entire situation.
I saw an interview somewhere , I don’t exactly remember where, in which Captain Sullenberger said emphatically " I am not a hero,I just did what my training prepared me for " " I am a Pilot, Pilots are trained for this !"
He also said that although trained for this, he hoped all other pilots never had to do it . T.B.
